a. Participants Descriptions

The first group of participants of the preliminary field testing was thirty eight students. They were the students of grade XI SMA Seminari Pius XII Kisol. The ages of the students are from 16 to 18 years old. They were asked to fill the questionnaire related to the proposed materials. In previous need analysis survey, the same group were asked to fill in the questionnaire and asked the questions related to the needs of teaching and learning writing. In preliminary field testing, the students were also asked to fill the questionnaire to know their evaluation and comment on the proposed materials; whether the proposed materials were interesting and appropriate with their needs. The second group of participants was three English teachers in Seminari Pius XII Kisol and two English lecturers in English Education Study Program at Sanata Dharma University. The teachers and the lecturers were asked to fill questionnaire related to the proposed materials. They were asked to evaluate, give comment and suggestion for the materials. The whole data of the teachers and lectures could be seen in the following table. b. Data Presentation and Analysis

The data presentation consisted of two parts. The first part was the presentation of statistical data of the students. The second part was the presentation of statistical data from the teachers and lectures. In gaining the data for preliminary field testing of the product, the questions were on the form of five degrees of agreement. It meant that the proposed materials were acceptable and appropriate to be used for the students of grade XI of SMA Seminari Pius XII Kisol Manggarai Timur Flores. Nevertheless, teachers’ and lecturers’ comment and suggestion to the proposed materials were still used to develop and improve the materials. The participants gave some comments and suggestions for improving the materials. The comments and suggestions related to pictures, grammar and contents. 1. Some of pictures in the materials were not clear. 2. The reading passage for descriptive text was not familiar. The reading material should be familiar with students’ background, especially about their environment. The descriptive text should describe the places in Flores. 3. A reading passage of story telling was too long. It should be shortened. 4. Some instructions should be revised. 5. The feedback and repetition should be accommodated in learning activities 6. In developing the materials, the time allocation should be provided. 62
