The learners were to match the words in the first column with the words in the second column that had similar meanings. The last part, “Homework”, gave instruction to them about what to do at home: to read the reading passage in unit 4 and to prepare themselves to discuss about unique customs of many countries all around the world.

4. Unique Customs

The fourth unit was intended to make the learners discuss unique customs in many countries all around the world. In reading part in Part A, some unique customs of some countries were told briefly. A conversation of a unique custom of Brazil was also presented in listening part. Those parts were followed by some questions to discuss. In Part B, the writer provided an instruction. The learners, one by one, were to describe a unique custom in front of the class. The listeners, then, had to guess the name of the described custom. “Grammar Point” in Part C discussed the adverbial clauses of time. The usage of adverbs of time in sentences was explained here. In “Words Bank”, the learners could improve their vocabulary by finding the meanings and the synonyms of the provided words. The last part instructed them to read the 69 reading passage in unit 5 and to prepare themselves to discuss about technology, information, and communication in the next meeting.

5. Technology, Information, and Communication

The fifth unit gave opportunities for the learners to discuss the topics deeper. In Part A, the writer provided a reading text having “Global Village” as the title. There were some questions provided to measure the learners’ comprehension of the reading text. In listening part, the learners were directed to listen to two conversations. The first conversation was presented in the text book. In the second conversation, the learners had to listen carefully in order to be able to answer the provided questions. The deeper discussion related to the topic was intended to be conducted in Part B. The learners were to conduct a discussion about technologies that had influenced people’s lives the most, and how technologies had affected people in getting information and communicating with others. “Feedback” in Part C explained the differences of “can” and “be able to”. In “Words Bank”, the learners were challenged to explore their vocabulary by finding as many words as possible related to the topic discussed.
