2. The Future

The second unit was directed to make the learners discuss anything about the future. In Part A, the provided reading text discussed about the 21 st -century lifestyle. While in listening part, the conversation was about the future changes. Both reading and listening parts were followed by some questions to discuss. In part B, there were two tasks to do. The first task asked the learners to discuss more possible changes in each area discussed in listening part. The second part directed them to play a game about being fortunetellers that gave predictions of and suggestions for their customers’ future. In “Grammar Point” in Part C, there was a discussion about the usage of present continuous, “will”, “be going to”, future continuous, and future perfect. In the next subpart of Part C, “Words Bank”, there were some words to learn. The learners were to find the meanings of the words from reliable sources. The last part in this unit, Part D, instructed the learners to read the reading passage in unit 3 and to prepare today’s hottest news from reliable sources.

3. The Hottest News

The third unit challenged the learners to have as interesting discussion as possible about the hottest news. In reading part in part A, the writer provided some hottest news from several sources. In listening part, the conversation conducted by 68 the speakers was also about the hottest news. There were several questions following each part. Part B, “Let’s Try”, directed the learners to find a partner and then to have conversations talking about the hottest news. In “Grammar Point” in part C, the focus was passive form. The learners could correct their grammatical mistakes in using passive form by learning this grammar point. In “Words Bank”, there were two columns of words. The learners were to match the words in the first column with the words in the second column that had similar meanings. The last part, “Homework”, gave instruction to them about what to do at home: to read the reading passage in unit 4 and to prepare themselves to discuss about unique customs of many countries all around the world.

4. Unique Customs

The fourth unit was intended to make the learners discuss unique customs in many countries all around the world. In reading part in Part A, some unique customs of some countries were told briefly. A conversation of a unique custom of Brazil was also presented in listening part. Those parts were followed by some questions to discuss. In Part B, the writer provided an instruction. The learners, one by one, were to describe a unique custom in front of the class. The listeners, then, had to guess the name of the described custom. “Grammar Point” in Part C discussed the adverbial clauses of time. The usage of adverbs of time in sentences was explained here. In “Words Bank”, the learners could improve their vocabulary by finding the meanings and the synonyms of the provided words. The last part instructed them to read the 69
