4.4 Productivity of Rubber Analysis

Based on Indonesian Rubber Statistics 2008, high productivity of rubber plantation is more than 1.5 tonhayear. The average productivity of rubber plantation in Banyuasin Regency is of 1.8 tonshayear please see Table 14, but quality of rubber produced is low. The cause of the productivity problem of rubber plantation is due to excessive wiretapping done by farmers, while the low quality of latex resulted from harvest treatment is not good because farmers use traditional instruments of harvest. Table 13 shows the result of spatial analysis, the productivity condition of suitable area planted with rubber in Banyuasin regency is divided into four parts: highly suitable areas planted with rubber and high productivity S1 rubber, high productivity about 17,183 hectares 32.5, highly suitable areas planted with rubber and low productivity S1 rubber, low productivity about 157.512 hectares 0.3, moderately suitable areas planted with rubber and high productivity S2 rubber, high productivity about 4,520 hectares 8.6, moderately suitable about areas planted with rubber and low productivity S2 rubber, low productivity about 30,963 hectares 58.6. GIS Spatial Analysis Results obtained by four productivity conditions. The first condition is highly suitable areas S1 planted with rubber and high productivity is separated into three sub regencies, namely Betung Sub Regency about 2,736 ha or 5.2, Banyuasin III Sub Regency about 8,310 ha or 15.7 and Rantau Bayur Sub Regency about 6,138 ha or 11.6. This location has high productivity because the majority is private and government plantations. Generally, are well managed of private and government plantations, using recommended clones and harvest treatment resulting to high quality rubber. 43 Table 14 Condition of Productivity of Rubber in 2009 The second condition is highly suitable areas S1 planted with rubber, while low productivity areas in Talang Kelapa Sub Regency about 157.51 ha or 0.3 and Rambutan Sub Regency about 4.24 ha or 0.0. This location has low productivity caused by immature and damaged trees. From suitability percentage, this location is the smallest area from the total land areas. This area is highly suitable for rubber, so this area should be developed by better management production. The third condition is areas of moderately suitable areas S2 planted with rubber and high productivity in Makarti Jaya Sub Regency about 64.98 ha or 0.1, Muara Padang Sub Regency about 4,391 ha or 8.3, and Betung Sub Regency about 64.58 ha or 0.1 and Banyuasin III Sub Regency about 0.11 ha or 0.0. This location has high productivity because in the majority is private, No Sub Regency Immature Damaged Mature Total Production Productivity of Rubber Ha Ha Ha Ton TonHaYear 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 Talang Kelapa 366 1,437 1,803 1,578 1.1 2 Muara padang 270 10 280 16 1.6 3 Makarti Jaya 12 17 29 64 3.8 4 Banyuasin III 9,372 4,589 26,779 40,740 37,312 1.8 5 Banyuasin II 40 40 6 Banyuasin I 1,344 286 1,630 413 1.4 7 Pulau Rimau 1,541 230 5,113 6,884 6,628 1.3 8 Rantau Bayur 2,896 33 1,999 4,928 3,014 1.9 9 Muara Telang 10 Betung 10,999 4,654 24,984 40,637 40,304 1.8 11 Rambutan 1,972 191 2,445 4,608 2,659 1.1 12 Tanjung Lago 126 126 13 Air Saleh 14 Muara Sugihan 3 3 15 Tungkal Ilir 324 324 Total : 29,265 9,697 63,070 102,032 15.8 avarage: 1.8 44 government and smallholders plantations, so these areas should be retained for planting rubber. This location has low the majority is not yet producing smallholder plantation. So, this area could be developed by better management production. Map of suitable area planted with rubber and productivity resulting from GIS spatial analysis is shown in Figure 16. Analysis of land suitability and productivity of rubber plantation resulted to suitable areas for rubber but only small areas are planted with rubber. The next 45 analysis was performed using AHP method with ratings to export plantation areas. This method uses social and economic factors.
