4.7 Summary of Result

Exploring of geography information system and AHP with ratings method can be applied to provide the information about evaluation of rubber plantation development in Banyuasin Regency. Evaluation of rubber plantation development was based on analyze of land suitability, productivity of rubber, land cover, social and economic factors, resulting for the development of suitable areas for rubber plantation in Banyuasin Regency. Suitable areas for rubber were obtained by overlay process to climate, soil and topography factors. Suitable areas can be classified into two classes; highly suitable S1 about 15.4 or 164,201 ha and about 84.6 or 904.681 ha is moderately suitable S2. The largest area from the total areas is moderately suitable S2. The result of rubber productivity analysis in Banyuasin Regency indicated a high average of about1.8 tonshayear. GIS Spatial Analysis results to four conditions. The first condition is high suitable areas S1 planted with rubber and 51 high productivity which is separated into three sub regencies, namely Betung Sub Regency about 2,735 ha or 5.2 , Banyuasin III Sub Regency about 8,310 ha or 15.7 and Rantau Bayur Sub Regency about 6,138 ha or 11.6. The second condition is of high suitable areas S1 planted with rubber and low productivity i.e. Talang Kelapa Sub Regency about 153.27 ha or 0.3 and Rambutan Sub Regency about 4.24 ha or 0.1. The third condition is moderately suitable areas S2 planted with rubber and high productivity i.e. Makarti Jaya Sub Regency about 64.98 ha or 0.1, Muara Padang Sub Regency about 4,391 ha or 8.3, and Betung Sub Regency about 64.58 ha or 0.1 and Banyuasin III Sub Regency about 0.11 ha or 0.0. The fourth condition is moderately suitable areas S2 planted with rubber and low productivity i.e. Banyuasin I Sub Regency about 24,684 ha or 46.7, Talang Kelapa Sub Regency about 42.202 ha or 0.1, Pulau Rimau Sub Regency about 1,004 ha or 1.9 and Rambutan Sub Regency about 5,234 ha or 9.9 . Low productivity covers about 29,265 ha of immature rubber trees and about 9,697 ha of damaged rubber trees. Proper management is required to increase rubber production. Based on consideration social and economic factors, Rambutan Sub Regency, Betung Sub Regency, Rantau Bayur Sub Regency and Banyuasin III sub regency has positive impact than other sub regency, so considerately this sub regency four eligible as areas of priorities for rubber plantation development. The total area of priorities for rubber plantat ion development is 51,960 ha or 4.87 from area of Banyuasin Regency . 52

V. CONCLUSION 5.1 Conclusions

There are several conclusions that can be drawn from this thesis: 1. Land suitability for rubber plantation is obtained from GIS. Land Suitability for rubber in Banyuasin Regency could be divided into 2 two classes: high suitable S1 areas and moderately suitable S2 areas. 2. The productivity of rubber in Banyuasin Regency is quite high with average about 1.8 tonhayear. 3. Condition of highly Suitable S1 area planted with rubber and low productivity about 158 ha from existing of rubber areas, this area should be developed by better management production and change with recommendation clone. 4. Because the impact of economic and social factors is positive, so as consideration Betung, Rantau Bayur, Rambutan and Banyuasin 3 Sub Regencies eligible for areas of priorities for rubber plantation development. 5. The total area of priorities for rubber plantation development is 51,960 ha or 4.87 from area of Banyuasin Regency . 6. Geographic Information System and Multi Criteria Analysis as tools have proven to be useful to evaluate and determination area of priorities development of rubber plantation in Banyuasin Regency.

5.3 Recommendations

The impact from economic, social and environmental increase from year to year, and it need more deep research. Some recommendations related to this study that can be developed in the future include: 1. According to the result of this study, more detailed scale map or large-scale is needed for different scale-level, such as for Regency and Sub Regency level 1:25,000 and 1:100,000.
