1. The Scriptwriter
Slumdog Millionaire is a movie written by Simon Beaufoy as the
scriptwriter. The movie was released on 9 January 2009 in United Kingdom, on 22 January 2009 in Mumbai and on 23 January 2009 in United States. Simon
Beaufoy is a British screenwriter, producer and director. He was born on Worth Valley, 1967. Beaufoy began to work on Slumdog Millionaire in 2006 after went
to Mumbai, India, to know the condition ther e. Simon visited Mumbai’s Juhu
slum and found that the area was very miserable which made him feel a bit sorry to them. In the road, he met children who came to him because they were curious
about him. Besides, he also passed a toilet that he had never seen before. He saw that the toilet was made by rickety wooden piers which stretched along and above
the slum’s massive rubbish dump. While continuing walking around the area, he found a group of gangster
which was never off the front page of the Times of India. Other than that, Hindu Muslim tensions are bubbling up again and the gang of beggars was seen at one of
the roads. By looking at the condition in Mumbai, Beaufoy was excited to make a love story and did not want to tell about money as the motivation.

takes place in Mumbai, India, 2006. The place shown in the story is a slum area in Mumbai called Juhu. The setting of the time used in
the story is around 1993 – 2006. The story uses three settings of time because it
shows flashbacks. The first is when Jamal joining the quiz of Who Wants to be a Millionaire
in 2006 at the age of eighteen. In the flashback, it shows Jamal’s experiences when he is five and twelve years old.
