Because of it, the police and the host of the quiz do not believe it and kidnap Jamal to make him admit that he is cheating. However, Jamal does not do it because he gets all the answers from his experience of life. The story uses flashbacks to show Jamal’s life situation in the past and as the key why Jamal can answer the questions.

B. Approach of the Study

In conducting this study, the researcher uses only psychological approach to fi nd out Jamal’s motivation in joining the quiz. Psychological approach itself is an approach that views works through the lens of psychology. It will look at the psychological motivation, or in this study it will look at th e character’s motivation in doing something. This approach helps the researcher to know the motivation of the main character in joining the quiz.

C. Method of the Study

The method of this study is a library research. The first step taken was watching the movie. Second, the researcher read the script of the movie to deepen the researcher ’s understanding. Third, watching the movie again while reading the script to be more understand about the plot. Fourth, the researcher formulated some problems based on the story. Fifth, the researcher found some references in the library, internet, and other places related to the movie script. There were two kinds of sources that the researcher used. In this study, the researcher used Slumdog Millionaire movie script as the primary source and some other theories taken from books and electronic sources as the secondary sources, which can be found in the list of references. There is another secondary source that helped the researcher in understanding the story. It was the movie of Slumdog Millionaire. The sixth step was that the researcher chose the appropriate approach that could be applied in this study. Seventh, the researcher analyzed the study using the related theories that had been found from the previous step to answer the problems.
