2. The instruments for preliminary field testing
The instruments for preliminary field testing were the first post- design questionnaires. They were distributed to one English teacher, two
English instructors, and one lecturer. The objectives of the questionnaires were close-ended and open-ended questions. The open-ended questions, in
this study, were employed to gain authenticity, richness, honesty, and depth of response to the designed materials Louis Cohen, Lawrence
Manion, and Keith Morrison, 2000:225. The questionnaires were distributed in order to get some inputs, feedbacks, and valuable
suggestions about the designed materials. The detailed form of the post design questionnaire can be seen in the appendix.
3. The instruments for main field testing
The instruments for main field testing were the second post-design questionnaires. They were distributed to the sixth grade students of
elementary school. The questionnaires were distributed in order to get the feedback from the students and to know how the product worked.
D. Data Gathering Technique
The data were gathered from some observations in teaching learning activities in class, questionnaires, and interview.
The following table presented the data gathering technique:

effectively used. - Whether realia as the learning
media match with the six grade students.

2. How does the design work
in teaching supplementary English instructional
vocabulary materials using realia
for the sixth grade students of elementary
school?
Data needed from main field testing:
-
The clarity of the materials. -
Whether the topics interest the
students. -
The sequences of the
teaching-learning activities. -
Whether the media support and stimulate the students’
motivation and participation.
Post-design questionnaires
2 - The sixth
grade students.
The first data were gathered from the first research question, and it would be fourteen 14 students at SD Kanisius Babadan. The data from this group were
in the form of observation, interview, pre-design questionnaires and post-design questionnaires 1. The observation, interview, and pre-design questionnaires were
done in the school in order to know the condition of the classroom during the teaching learning activities, the students’ need, and the students’ interest. The
post-design questionnaires 1 were distributed for one English teacher of Kanisius Babadan elementary school, two English instructors at Rainbow group and Miami
Fleet college, and one lecturer of Sanata Dharma University. The data were gathered to know the feedback and evaluation to the design of vocabulary
materials, lesson plans, and the syllabus. The second data were gathered from the second research question, the
writer distributed post-design questionnaires 2 to the sixth grade students. The questionnaires were distributed in order to get the feedback from the students and
to know how the product worked.
