CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
This is the final chapter of the study. There are two sections will be discussed. First, conclusions of overall thesis on designing materials using videos
for the fifth grade students in the language laboratory of SD Tarakanita Magelang. Second, some suggestions dedicate to English teachers and future
researchers.
A. Conclusions
Few conclusions were drawn regarding this study based on the discussions and research findings.
First, this study modified Kemp and Yalden’ model as the steps in designing the material for fifth grade students. The writer developed eight steps
from both instructional design models. They are conducting needs survey, stating instructional goals and topics, establishing learning indicators, listing the subject
content, designing material, selecting teaching learning activities, evaluating and revising design material. However, the writer did not include all steps. The step in
which require the researchers to implement the design was not included. English materials were designed based on the Communicative Approach.
Thus, videos become the main materials. The needs survey was conducted by interviewing the elementary school English teacher. The material was designed
62
with various activities inspired by the videos which are suitable for fifth grade students and the topics.
The product evaluation was obtained by distributing questionnaire. From the questionnaire, the writer concluded some opinions that the material is
interesting and suitable for fifth graders. However, one respondent shared suggestion to provide the material by using the audiovisual since the material will
be used in language laboratory. Thus, the writer provided videos related to the topics and the videos chosen was suitable and applicable for fifth graders of SD
Tarakanita Magelang. The use of videos is expected to improve students’ ability
of learning the target language communicatively since students are given the real model of target language.. In addition, the materials are appropriate to be applied
in the language laboratory for maximizing its medium available there. The presentation of designed material is to answer second problem of the
research. The English material design for fifth grade students consists of eight units. Each unit has four sections which provide the opportunity for students to
learn in groups or individual work.
B. Suggestions
The writer shared some suggestions to English teachers and future
researchers concerning this study.
1. For Elementary English Teachers
Teaching young learners need preparations, moreover when the school has a language laboratory and students learn in the language laboratory. The essence
63
of learning in a language laboratory is to optimize the audiovisuals or learning media there. Thus, teachers must prepare and familiarize themselves with the
media in language laboratory in order to convey the material appropriately to have the best result. This English material is suitable to be used in language laboratory
since it is completed with video. Then, teachers are suggested to know how to operate the audiovisuals and when to stop the video or replay it for students. In
addition, teachers are expected to use and consider some of the techniques in operating the videos as stated in the literature review in order to develop the
students’ comprehension of learning target language from the videos.
2. For Future Researchers
In this study, the writer did not implement the design material. Thus, it is expected for future researchers to implement this design. By implementing the
design, the future researcher may gain some strengthness and weaknesses which help them to modify the design. Since this study aimed at designing material for
fifth grade students, the future researchers are expected to be more pay attention to the activities and videos which are suitable for students to have fun learning
during the learning process in language laboratory. PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI
