49 The last question was about students ability to comprehend short listening passage. The teacher stated if students are given simple sentences, most of them are able to perceive the meaning. From the interview above, the teacher needs a set of materials which combine various activities to be used in language laboratory. The material then should match the needs which cover some skills that suitable for fifth grade level of SD Tarakanita Magelang.

2. Stating Instructional Goals and Topics

As stated before, there is no curriculum to be applied in language laboratory, thus the language teacher who decides the instructional goals, as well as the topics. In the design, the writer formulated the instructional goals and topics based on the language laboratory teacher’s suggestion and consideration. The writer chose eight topics in the design as for the requirements from the study program. GOALS TOPICS 1. To prepare students to learn English in higher level of study. 2. 3. Establishing Learning Indicators

The learning indicators are to show what have been achieved from the goals. Thus, each unit has different indicator compared to other units. The learning indicators from the design are presented in table below: UNIT TOPIC INDICATORS 1 Who Are My Classmates? Students are able to: a. study some expressions for asking and replying about introduction. b. read conversations. c. understand the simple present pattern. d. watch and listen to the video about “Self- introduction”. e. fill their personal identities. f. interview classmates. g. write some sentences using present tense. h. complete some conversations. 2 Where Can I Find It?
