4.1. 4 Reason of Teacher’s Code Switching in Expressing the Emotion
Based on the interview with the teacher, there are several reasons why the chemistry teacher switches her language from Indonesian to
Javanese in expressing her emotion: 1. The teacher considers that Javanese has more word choice for
insulting people than Indonesian as seen in the examples below: 41
“Pira Fais? Ketemune Pira? Ki ya podo wae podo dhedhel,
podo gebleke ning durung maju.” “What is the result Fais? What is the result? You
are as stupid as him, but you has not come forward yet.
The teacher uses the Javanese words dhedel and geblek in
one utterance. The Javanese words dhedhel and geblek have the same meaning
. They same as “stupid” in English. The teacher uses that words to emphasizes her utterance, because she is annoyed to
her students. 42
“Sakkelas sing bodho dewe ki Bayu. Gedi, pongpongan, D3. Datang. Duduk. Dlongap-
dlongop.” “In this classroom, Bayu is the most stupid one. Big,
pongpongan. D3. Datang. Duduk. Dlongap- dlongop
.”
The teacher uses the Javanese words in her utterance for insulting her students. She said that Bayu is the most stupid stupid
student. She give him the title D3, that refers to datang, duduk, dlongap-dlongop. It means, Bayu come to school just for sitting in

77 the classroom and he never pay attention to the teacher so he does
not understand nothing. The teacher prefers to use Javanese words for insulting her student rather than in Indonesia, because she wants
to make different nuance in the classroom.
3. The t eacher’s mother tongue is Javanese. Then she prefers to swear
or curse someone in Javanese rather than in Indonesian as seen in the example below:
“Ngono wae kok rak isa. Mol CO2 goblok Fais sekolah ning nggon SLB C. Kok isa setengah? Delok
reaksineDelok reaksine Takkon nulis ning ruang guru ping satus kowe Bener tiga? Gobloke,
gobloke.” “Just doing that, you can not. Mol CO2 stupid Fais,
you study in SLB C. How come it can be half? Look at the reaction Look at the reaction I ask you to
write a 100 times in teacher office. Three, right? Very stupid.
” The teacher prefers to uses Javanese words rather than
Indonesian when she is cursing her Student. She uses Javanese such as gobloke, that has meaning stupid in English. Goblok in
Javanese word categorizes into rude word. The Javanese has three level i.e: krama inggil, krama madya, and ngoko. Krama
Inggil is the highest level in Javanese. It has the smoothest words. Krama madya is the middle level in Javanese. Ngoko is
the lowest level in the Javanese. The Javanese rude words such as goblok categorizes into the lowest level of Javanese namely
ngoko. The teacher often uses rude Javanese words when she

Javanese.
