Flash back to the story when Minha mae is shipped to the America become a slave, Florens is sold when she is still a child, both of the experiences, it can be analyse as remembering past is not always good. The miserable is always imagining them. The suffering is never end in the New World, it makes them try to survive under control white people. Many slaves have several bad experiences rather than good experiences at that time. This moral value remains somebody who is enthusiast to prepare his or her better future. As human being, somebody should think positively to look back memorably experiences although it is bad. There are positive effects behind it. Human being should takes out of bad experiences of the past which is happen as a lesson for future life. 57

CHAPTER V CONCLUSION

Many black slaves experienced the difficult situation in their life. From the first time, the black people slave were shipped and sold to the other owner. Arriving in America, they had to work under the white people errand. Black people worked as household or work as farm worker. They should be obedient to their masters. The cruel master gave bad treatment to the slave if the slaves were not following their order. Sometimes they were sold just like stuff. The white people pretended them as a material that can be profitable to their own. They discriminated the slave especially black women. Moreover, they were often abused them sexually. Besides, the slaves were not allowed to read and to write. It was because the write afraid if the black civilization would lose them. The white people were bad at treating to the colored in that era. Moreover, they used black people to employ them as a servant. The major character in the novel is Florens. She is a black slave which was born from African mother Minha Mae. She bears the status from her mother as a slave. Since she was child, she was purchased by Jacob Vaark. Nevertheless, he does not want to take Florens as the p ayment of D’Ortega’s debt. Then Jacob Vaark thought that she can accompany his wife and his daughter in his house as a household, finally he makes agreement. It occurs when Florens is sold by D’Ortega, he offers Florens as the payment of his debt. Then D’Ortega offers his woman slave. Minha Mae offers Florens because she wants to release Florens 58 from the D’Ortega’s cruelty. Her mother sees Jacob Vaarks that he has humanity side from his characteristics. He sees Florens as a human being rather than an animal or a property. Florens characteristics are kind, smart, naïve, unyielding, brave and trustworthy. Those ch aracteristics can be seen by Florens’s thought, her conversation, her dialogue, her action, and another character. Florens is smart and trustworthy because her Mistress believes that she is smart, she is able to read and write. Therefore, she gives her order to get blacksmith when the Mistress needs medical treatment because of her mouth’s sore. She is brave and unyielding to get blacksmith house under her Mistress ’ errand. She passes through the wilderness. Even in the middle of her journey, she must face the ignorance from society and blacksmith’s son rejection. Even though she is naïve, she loves blacksmith without know the blacksmith’s affection to Florens is as same as she has. She wants the blacksmith become her future. As a black woman slave, she experienced many bad experiences. The negative sound always exists because of the suffering of the slaves. Nevertheless, she also has good moment before blacksmith ignores her. She ever feels in love with him. Her bad experiences such as being abandoned from her mother, being abandoned from the blacksmith, being abandoned from the society, and being treated unfairly by white woman. When she was still a child, she separates away with her mother. Because of her mother offers her to the other owner. The second abandon is from blacksmith. Blacksmith judges Florens as the evil that makes his steps son fainting and bleeding. Because blacksmith chooses his son, he rejects Florens. He orde rs Florens to back in Mistress’ house.
