Greece: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs present their compliments to the International Maritime Organization and have the honour to bring to the attention of the Secretary-General that, in application of article VII Section VII2 paragraph b of SOLAS 1974, Greece exempts herself of the application of Decisions MSC 4766 and MSC 5767, relevant to the changes of the Annex of the aforementioned agreement, for a period of one 1 year i.e. up to the 1st of July 1999, for reasons that relay to obligations deriving from contracts prior to the amendments as well as to the fact that ships under construction are subject to rules regarding identical ships already delivered under prior conditions. 25 1996 Resolution A.74418 Amendments MSC.4966

A. Adoption

The Maritime Safety Committee at its sixty-sixth session June 1996 adopted by resolution MSC.4966, in accordance with article VIII of the Convention, amendments to the Guidelines on the enhanced programme of inspections during surveys of bulk carriers and oil tankers resolution A.74418.

B. Entry into force

In accordance with article VIIIbvii2 of the Convention, and as determined by the Maritime Safety Committee, the amendments shall enter into force on 1 July 1998 unless, prior to 1 January 1998, more than one-third of Contracting Governments to the Convention, or Contracting Governments the combined merchant fleets of which constitute not less than fifty per cent of the gross tonnage of the worlds merchant fleet, have notified their objections to the amendments.
