2. Implementing Action

Cycle 2 covers four meetings, they were: the first meeting, the second meeting, the third meeting, and the post-test.

a. The First Meeting

The first meeeting was carried out on Friday, April 23th, 2010. On Friday, as usual the teaching and learning started at 10.15. The reading texts in C ycle 2 meeting 1 was “ Cinderella ”. The researcher entered the class and greeted the students. Before the teaching and learning started, the researcher asked one of the students to became the leader of the praying in English. Then, the researcher checked the students‟ attendance. There were 31 students in the class, all of them were present. They were 16 male students and 15 female students. Before teaching, the researcher asked some questions to the students related with the test last week. The teacher said: “We re you satisfied with the result of the test last week?”. Some of the students answered: “ No , bu” . Then, the next question was : “H ave you any problems in doing the test? ”. Some of the students answered : “ Yes, of course ” . Then, the next question was: “ What is your problems, students ?” . One of the students answered UA : “M enentukan ide pokok, bu” . Some of the students answered: “ Kata- katanya sulit bu” . One of the students answered AL : “Kok pilihannya hampir sama ya bu”. Then, the researcher gave advise to the students: “ Ok students, to solve the problems you had to study hard and read many kinds of English texts to improve your understanding of texts ”. Then, the researcher explained the objective of the activity. Then, she divided the students into 8 groups. After that, the researcher asked some questions to the students to lead the theme and the title of the text. The purpose was to activate their background knowledge. Then, the teacher reminded the students how to identify narrative and recont text, such as: generic structure, language feature, to find detail information of the text, etc. The teacher asked : “ Have you read a story book ?”. Some of the students answered: “Yes, bu”. The next question was: “W hat kind of story book that you read ?” . One of the students said AY : “ Narrative text, bu ”. Some of the students answered: commit to user “Recount text, bu”. The teacher said: “Yes , good ”. The next was: “W hat is the similarity and the differences between narrative and recount text ?” . Some of the students answered: “ Recount text is t o tell past event, bu”. One of the students answered KA: “ Narrative text is to entertain the readers , bu”. One of the students answered AL: “The text use past tense, bu”. Then, the teacher said : ”Yes good, all of you right”. The researcher said that today we would discuss the text, the title was: “ Cinderella ”. In the whilst-reading activity, the researcher distributed the student ‟s worksheets to each of groups. The student ‟s worksheet was in Appendix 13.a. Then, the researcher asked some of the students to read the text loudly, the title was “ Cinderella ”. Then, the teacher gave a model to read the text correctly. After that, the teacher asked the students to discuss and answered the questions in the worksheet. Then, the students discussed Task 3 and 4. While they were discussing the text, the writer monitored them. The teacher also guided the students and corrected the wrong answers. Then, some of the groups reported their answer to the whole class. In the post-reading activity, the teacher concluded the lesson. Then, the researcher and the students did reflection from the teaching and learning process that have been done. At last, the teacher gave them homework and said goodbye.

b. The Second Meeting
