47 Related to the preferred option, the respondents who chose option 2 also conveyed their feeling after receiving the negative feedback. As shown in Table 4.2, there were many kinds of feeling stated by the respondents. They were sad, motivated, motivated but depends on the language, encouraged, okay, enlightened, insulted, upset, angry, and happy. The most mentioned feeling was motivated, followed by encouraged in the second place. To conclude, they received positive feeling after receiving option two as the negative feedback for case I.

b. Case II

Similar to case I, in case II, the respondents were given a situation where they would be given negative feedback. However, this time, they were given negative feedback for their oral performance. The procedure was similar, they had to choose one of the eight options and then give the reason for choosing the option and their feeling when given such negative feedback. The respondents’ responses to questionnaire part B case II were recorded into table Appendix E.

1. Preferred Option for Case II

In Case II, the respondents mostly chose option 1, direct oral negative feedback without hedging. Options 2 and 3 were chosen with the same number of respondents. As previewed in Table 4.5, almost a third of the respondents 31.43 preferred option 1. To sum up, the most preferred negative feedback was direct oral negative feedback.

2. Consideration in Choosing the Option for Case II

After choosing the type of negative feedback for case II, the respondents then had to give their reason for choosing the option. There were many reasons. The reasons were summarised in Table 4.6. The reason that appeared the most was because the performance was oral performance, the negative feedback should be in oral too. This reason appeared eight times. The second most mentioned reason was that the negative feedback was not insulting, mentioned six times. There were also other reasons that were mentioned several times such as clarity, directness, written, and polite. There were also less popular reasons such as the ability to learn something, quick, complete, not embarrassing, memorable, detailed, acceptable, suitable, personal, and implicit. Most of the respondents mentioned reasons that were related to negative feeling, form, and clarity. Reasons related to negative feelings were mentioned 14 times, reasons related to form were mentioned 12 times, and reasons related to clarity were mentioned 13 times. In short, for oral performance, to give considerable negative feedback to the respondents, the negative feedback should give no negative feeling, be in the correct form, and be clear.
