43 Content analysis itself is applicable to many areas of inquiry. The researcher
conducted the research by having library research instruments. The researcher obtained the data first by listing some
countries’ and states’ slogans, and then the researcher analyzed the presuppositions discovered in those country and state
slogans by categorizing the presuppositions according to its type. Then, the researcher analyzed the data by applying some major theories presented in chapter
II.
B. Research Setting
In this research, the researcher analyzes the kinds of presupposition triggers and types of presupposition discovered in countries and states slogans.
The data in this research obtained from magazines, newspapers, and mostly from the internet source. The researcher gathered the data of countries and states
slogans on 13 – 18 February 2013. The data of countries’ and states’ slogans
analyzed in this research are the slogans applied by the countries in 2013.
C. Research ParticipantsSubject
This research was conducted in order to investigate the pragmatics presuppositions of some
countries’ and states’ slogans. The researcher collected the
countries’ and states’ slogans from magazines, newspapers, and mostly from the internet. In order to get the data, the researcher collected all of the
countries’ and states’ slogans that have been listed alphabetically. The researcher categorized
all of the countries’ and states’ slogans according to their continent in this world.
For the data which are going to be analyzed here, the researcher did not list the
44 slogans or taglines of all countries and states in this world because it will be too
much. Moreover, the researcher found that not all countries or states in this world have a slogan or tagline. Countries or states which have slogans or taglines are
those which generally have a place or area that is used for tourism promotion.
D. Instruments and Data Gathering Technique
Since the researcher applied content analysis to conduct this research, the one who gathered the data is the researcher. In qualitative research, the researcher
is the primary instrument for data collection and analysis Merriam, 2009, and which the final result is in a form of a rich description. Data are something
containing information which can be found in the environment. In this study, the researcher found the data in a form of document. Document is a source of data
which is easily accessible to the researcher Merriam, 2009. The researcher found the data from the advertisements attached in newspaper or magazine and also
from the internet which are designed to entertain or persuade the public. There are several steps which are used by the researcher to obtain the data or documents of
countries’ and states’ slogans. The first step that the researcher did is searching for slogans of some countries and states in this world in printed mass media like
newspaper and magazine and also electronic source like internet. After some data are collected and listed alphabetically, then the researcher categorized the slogans
or taglines according to which continent each country is belong to. There are five continents in this world and the researcher analyzed the entire slogan from the
continent as the main data discussed in this study.

The researcher got the data mostly form internet sources because the researcher found it easier to search for data in the internet. The following is the steps of how
the data are obtained from the internet.
