4.5. Developing Touring Plan Alternatives with Interpretive Concept

There are three touring alternatives that are developed in this study by using the concept of developing interpretation track. The interpretation concept is used here as the best way to communicate all the potential resources owned by Parangtritis Coastal Area to the visitors, through their first hand experiences with objects, artifacts, landscapes, or sites they visit along the tracks. Those three touring alternatives are developed based on the same vision of interpretation that is try to explore and communicate the resources with visual, natural, and cultural qualities within coastal area of Parangtritis. But each touring alternative is developed with its own specific main theme based on that vision.

4.5.1. Touring Alternative 1

Alternative 1 is developed based on the main theme that Parangtritis Coastal Area is enriched with varied tourism resources and attractions, not just because of its well known beach. The objective of this alternative is that the visitors can obtain the information about the varied tourism resources and attractions within the area, as well as the knowledge of the values of the resources, besides the recreational experiences along the track. The potential stops are determined with considering the potential area result from previous analysis together with the existing tourism objects. The very high and high potential areas for tourism activities are prioritized to be potential stops along the track. The areas with medium potential quality also need to be considered to be a potential stop, especially the ones with special resources, such as the hill foot area with good visibility to view the surrounding landscapes. 70 Every stop along the track should have its own theme as well as objectives based on the values of the resources that are being interpreted. Those themes are developed based on literature study from several sources, such as Masterplan of Tourism Objects in Parangtritis: Final Report Puspar UGM, 2000, previous study of tourism in Parangtritis that is conducted by Ismoyo 1994, some previous study conducted by Tourism Research Center UGM 1998, and several tourism brochures and leaflet about Parangtritis area. The detail information of interpretation in each stop is as shown in Table 11. Table 11. Syeh Bela Belu Grave A grave of a Majapahit nobleman who also spread Isla religion in Parangtritis area. It is a spiritual tourism object and a good view point in the hillside. Learn the historic footstep of Islam spreading and the influence of Majapahit Kingdom in Parangtritis area, and also learn the variety of landscapes by viewing them from the hillside. 2. Syeh Maulana Maghribi Grave A grave of a merchant from Arabic Country who also spread Islam in Parangtritis area. It is also a spiritual tourism object and a good view point in the hillside. Learn about one of the figures of the spreader of Islam spreading in Parangtritis area, besides enjoying the good view from the hillside. 3. Parang Wedang Hot Spring A traditional public bathing spot that use the natural hot spring as the water resource. Learn about the use of natural hot spring as a traditional public bathing spot since hundred years ago. 4. Ki Ageng Selohening Grave A grave of a nobleman from Majapahit Kingdom who is also known as Budhist spreader in this area. Get the ideas that there were also Budhist spreading in the area though it was not as succeed as Islam spreading in the area. 5. Dipokusumo Grave A grave that is used to be a villa of Prince Dipokusumo, the third son of Prabu Brawijaya IV from Majapahit Kingdom. Learn about the historic foot steps of the Majapahit Kingdom within the Parangtritis Area. a. Parangtritis Swimming Pool A traditional bathing well that uses the natural well spring as the water resource, which is believed found for the first time by Maulana Maghribi when he try to find the water to wash himself before praying. Learn about the natural well spring which also has cultural value as it was found by a well known speader of Islam in this area. 6. b. Panepen Cave A cave which was used by Pangeran Diponegoro for one of his sacred meditation after his meditation in Selarong Cave Feel the atmosphere of the place that was ever used by one of Indonesian hero, Pangeran Diponegoro, for meditation in between his fight against the colonist. 7. Panglima Sudirman Monument A historic evidence of a historic route of Panglima Sudirman on his gerilya movement to fight for Indonesia freedom. Learn the route of gerilya movement of Panglima Sudirman in one of its stops and learn the historic value of his heroic fighting. 8. View Point from Hill Side Tempat dengan pemandangan luas dan indah ke arah pantai di sebelah selatan dari daerah perbukitan. Mempelajari dan menikmati keindahan alam yang dimiliki oleh Kawasan Parangtritis. 9. Dry Rice Field Area of traditional rice field which only count on rainy season for watering the the field. Learn about the traditional rice planting system while enjoying the scenery of traditional rural environment. 71 No. Potential Stops Theme Objectives At the end of the track the visitor will: 10. Parangendog Swimming Pool Traditional swimming pool with natural well spring. Learn the use of natural well spring as the water resource of traditional public bathing pool since hundred years ago. 11. Parangtritis Beach A beach with a wide open space and beautiful scenery combined with Karsts Mountain scenery along from the east to the north side of the beach. Learn the unique characteristics of the beach covered with black colored sand and located side by side with the Karsts Mountain. 12. Parangkusumo Beach A beach as a place of spiritual event and cultural ceremony of Labuhan, a ritual devoting to the Southern Ocean, which closely related to the legend of “Kanjeng Ratu Kidul”. Learn the spiritual values of the ritual ceremony and feel how strong the legend is believed by many communities. 13. Cepuri Parangkusumo A place where Panembahan Senopati met and made the agreement with Ratu Kidul in founding the empire of Mataram. Learn the spiritual value and feel the spiritual atmosphere of the place as part of Parangkusumo Beach as a whole as the center of “Ratu Kidul” legend. 14. Sand Dunes A unique natural phenomena in tropical area like Indonesia, even it is the most unique phenomena in South East Region. See and hear, as first hand experience, the sands movement and learn how they eventually form the dunes in years and move from one dunes to another because of the wind. 15. Marine and Fishery Center A place where many marine and fishery activities done, such as fishermen sell their caught, selling many kinds of sea food, and many others. Learn the traditional livelihood of marine community and want to take a look around and buy some food that made from local sea food. 16. Geospatial Laboratory of Parangtritis This laboratorium record and doing some research about many natural phenomena in coastal area, especially in Parangtritis. Learn many natural phenomena; including some disaster that may happen in coastal area. 17. Glinggangsari One of meditation place of Sunan Kalijaga which becomes one of a spiritual place in Parangtritis. Learn the foot steps of Sunan Kalijaga, in his journey spreading the Islam all over the island, as a member of Wali Songo, the 9 sacred people who spread Islam religion in Java Island. 18. River Ecosystem of Opak River The river that flows directly to the sea with typical vegetations of stream valley and sand mining activities. Learn the river ecosystem and being aware the important values of this ecosystem that could be damaged because of too many sand mining activities. 19. Paddy Field and Red Onion Farming The irrigation rice field and red onion farming which become the main agricultural activities of local people in this area. Learn and feel the atmosphere of traditional rural livelihood based on agricultural living. All those potential stops are then linked with certain sequence to create a potential tourism track. Based on the already defined theme and objective of this tourism touring alternative, a track is developed that link one potential stop to the others in one big loop simultaneously, which starts from the location of the existing entrance of Parangtritis Area and end in the same location. The layout of this touring alternative can be seen in Figure 33, while Figure 34 shows the pictures of each potential stops. 72 Figure 33.
