B. The Analysis of Data
The following is the analyzing the qualitative data by using Miles and Huberman Model:
1. Data Reduction The data reduction is taken from the fieldnotes, the observation forms and
the result of interview. They are limited and summarized from the effectiveness of the activity in presenting the Simple Past Tense and the
implementation of information-gap activity in teaching Simple Past Tense. 2. Data Display
The data is displayed by the writer in the form of systematic and logic sentence and narrative text. It aims to describe the result of interview and
observation fieldnotes and observation forms. The result of interview is displayed on page 63 to 65 in the form of systematic and logic sentence.
The result of observation in the form of fieldnotes and observation form is displayed on page 61 to 62 in the form of narrative text.
3. Conclusion Drawing Based on the qualitative data displayed, the writer with the teacher as
collaborator infer that there is a significant improvement of the quality in presenting Simple Past Tense and the quality in implementing
information-gap activity from the cycle 1 to the cycle 2.
In analyzing the quantitative data both pre-test and post-test in each cycle, the writer does four steps: calculating the average score of the students
mean, calculating the percentage score which passes the Minimum Mastery Criterion, Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal KKM, and calculating the students‟
score improvement in Simple Past Tense from cycle 1 to cycle 2.
First, calculating the mean of students in the pre-test result:
