said,” thought Kathleen to herself. “I envied Jenny and said she was lucky
because she had so many friends —and I
though because I was an unlucky person none of those nice things happened to me.

wouldn’t be able to help it—but as soon as I changed myself, I changed the
things that happened too What a pity
that everyone doesn’t know that” Kathleen is not afraid to change

The Six Bad
Boys
56 Bob went to wash. He felt happier, but he
wanted something he hadn’t been able to get.
He wanted a warm response from
his mother. She was kinder —but she
wasn’t warm, like Mrs. Mackenzie was when anyone hugged her.
He mustn’t keep comparing his mother to Mrs.
Mackenzie. He’d try like anything now to make his mother love him and proud
of him. He did his best that evening. If a
boy showed kindness to his mother, Bob was that boy.
Bob doesn’t feel satisfied with his mother’s response because the
response is not warm like his neighbor’s, Mrs. Mackenzie. He
tries to control his mind so he won’t compare anymore.

23 Mr. Warlow, the games master, soon
noticed this, and he called the two of them to him.
“You are playing a game, not fighting a battle,” he told them gravely. “Keep your
likes and dislikes out of hockey and lacrosse, please, and play fairly.”
Elizabeth was ashamed, and stopped trying to hurt Robert
—but Robert took an even greater delight in giving Elizabeth
a bruise whenever he could when Mr. Warlow was not watching.
Although Elizabeth is ashamed, she tries not to hurt Robert
anymore.
