C. The Factors of Gang Appearance

Factor is one of several things that cause or influence something. 1 For example, the closure of the mine was the single most important factor in the town’s decline . It means that the closure of the mine causes or influences the town’s decline. Based on writer’s interview with eleven counselors at eleven state high schools in South Tangerang, the interview showed that the factors of gang appearance among students stated by them vary as follow: 1. Making a group 2. Possessing similar interest and talent such as: sport soccer, volleyball, and basket ball, dance or art. 3. Providing prestigious position among other students. 4. Providing safety. 5. Strengthening dominance among other students. 6. Obtaining more power. 7. Making the same identity. 8. Willing to be given credit or respected by other students 9. Sharing common hobby such as swimming or watching movies and common needs such as sharing answer sheet when having test. 10. Uniting the same vision such as willing to break school rule or willing to be the best among others. 11. Having a place to share. 12. Steeling confidence. 13. Causing someone to fear. 14. Sharing common social status. 15. Fighting against or breaking school rule. In this interview related to factors of gang appearance, the writer also interviewed with twenty-two students. Besides the items mentioned by the counselors, the following is students’ perception regarding the factors of gang appearance: 1. Possessing similar path. 2. Willing to be famous among other students. 3. Desiring or ambitioning to be the ones. 4. Gaining mastery. 5. Protecting members one another. 1 A. S. From the factors it should be noticed that what comes from bad things will result in bad things too.
