Chapter IV Results and Discussion
A. Introduction
This chapter contains detailed presentation of results, findings and discussion for this study. All the data collected were analyzed but only those ones that directly
satisfy the objectives of this study and thus answer the research statement are presented and discussed here.
B. The Existence of Gangs at School
The phenomenon related to gang is already familiar in other countries while in Indonesia it may not be really well-known. Actually the acts impacted by it have
already occurred, but we don’t really recognize them. Gang-fight, for instance, already occurred among students and society. Not only that, students often do
delinquency in a group; they smoke, are off school, play card or chess at school hours, and are in play station at school hours together with friends.
To know exactly whether gang exists at school, the writer gave questionnaires to 209 students. The students who were given the questionnaires are some students who
represented each high school in South Tangerang.

Table 1 above shows that 15 of respondents reported that they did not notice any existence of gangs at their school while 85 of them asserted that there has been
significant existence respectively. That is to say, majority of students recognize that gang exists at school.
The writer also interviewed with eleven counselors regarding with the gang existence, from his interview only two of them didn’t notice or recognize this
existence while most of them accurately noticed it. That is to say that according to their school control, they couldn’t deny its existence.
The following table is students’ admittance in committing in a gang based on questionnaires given to 209 students.

The table above showed that 40 of male students and 33 of female students joint in gang while 60 and 67 were not interested in joining in it. Although the
percentage of gang members is lower than that of non-gang members, it doesn’t mean we let it through. We should be aware of their existence because it may increase the
amount, influence bad impacts, and inactivate school activity. In this study, the 40 and 33 will lead us to indicate the bad impacts of joining
in gang on gang members’ school performance, being described in next subtopic.
