5.3. The Framework 5.3.1 Officers Head of School: is the Schools senior executive, representative on Senate and other University bodies; responsible to the Senate for the quality and standards of courses run by the School. Director of Studies: oversees the management of the Schools courses, including the implementation and development of its learning and teaching strategy, quality enhancement, and the programme of staff development; may delegate the management of particular areas to e.g. a Director of Undergraduate Studies and a Director of Postgraduate Studies, andor to Course Directors, andor to a Director of Learning and Teaching. Course Directors: are responsible for the management of individual courses, including course development, oversight of quality and standards, student support, teaching resources, and any other matters relevant to the running of courses. Quality Assurance Coordinator: responsible for the oversight of quality assurance procedures, communications with the Quality and Standards Office, and the identification and dissemination of good practice. 5.3.2 School Committees

Learning and Teaching Committee: Responsibilities to implement, review and develop the Schools learning and teaching strategy and quality assurance policies and procedures to have general oversight over quality and standards in the School to receive and consider annual and triennial review reports from course committees to receive and consider reports on student evaluation of modules to receive reports from the Staff-Student Liaison Committees and report proposed action to it to receive and consider reports on meetings of the Careers Service Academic Liaison Committee from the Schools representative, from the Schools library liaison officer and from its representative on the Faculty Course Development Sub-committee. Core Membership the Head of School the Quality Assurance Co-ordinator at least one representative of all Course Committees the Director of Studies officers of the School responsible for liaison with sections of the University relevant to learning and teaching e.g. Careers Service, Library at least one student representative, nominated by the Staff-Student Liaison Committee. Course Committee: Every course for which a School is responsible must come under the auspices of a Course Committee one committee may, if appropriate, take responsibility for more than one course. Responsibilities to manage the running and development of the courses to ensure the maintenance and enhancement of quality and standards in the courses for which it is responsible to conduct annual course reviews to conduct triennial course reviews to report to the Schools Learning and Teaching Committee or its equivalent on matters relevant to the management of the courses. Core Membership all full-time Keele staff engaged in teaching the courses other staff involved in teaching andor assessing the courses at least one student representative of each courses elected by and from the students on the courses. Staff-Student Liaison Committee: Every full-time course for which a School is responsible must be represented on a Staff-Student Liaison Committee; there should also be adequate representation of students from within and without the School who are taking modules in the School. The Staff-Student Liaison Committee may cover all courses and modules in the School, or there may be more than one representing different courses, disciplines or levels e.g. postgraduate. The activities of Staff-Student Liaison Committees must be adequately publicised to students, and student representatives and any student officers must have access to appropriate facilities in the School to enable them to carry out their functions, which will normally include noticeboard space and facilities to contact students by email. The names, email addresses, and photographs of student representatives should normally be displayed on a noticeboard within the School. In respect of part-time courses and students attending on a part-time basis Schools may either follow the structure outlined above or provide such other opportunities for the responsibilities outlined below to be met, as are appropriate to the groups of students concerned. Responsibilities to discuss matters raised by students, and matters on which the School wishes to seek student views to consider the outcome of student evaluation of courses and modules, and the Schools response to it to advise the School on proposals for new courses, and changes to existing courses to report the views of students to the Schools Learning and Teaching Committee, and receive reports from it on the Schools proposed response. Core Membership representatives of the academic staff of the School whose number shall not exceed the number of student members at least one representative of each student cohort of all courses offered, elected annually by ballot of the group of students to be represented by the end of the fourth week of the first semester of each session or equivalent in the case of courses which do not follow the academic year representation of students from courses outside the School as necessary, which may be by co-option Prior to the first meeting, the secretary to the Committee must publish the names of the student representatives both within the School and to the Vice-President Education and Welfare of the Students Union. Conduct of meetings The Staff-Student Liaison Committees must: meet at least once a semester; additional meetings may be held by agreement, and must be held if requested in writing by at least three members; be chaired by a student representative unless no student representative wishes to be appointed chair; be minuted, and the minutes published in a form accessible to all students. The minutes of meetings may be taken by a student or staff member at the discretion of the Committee; agree action in response to issues raised and receive reports on action taken. The Head of School is responsible for ensuring that University requirements are met in relation to the operation of Staff-Student Liaison Committees. The Committee shall appoint its own secretary from amongst its staff and student members. School Meeting: Responsibilities to have the final responsibility for the conduct of the Schools courses to implement, review and develop the Schools staff development strategy to receive reports from all School committees to undertake such other functions as the School or Head of School may decide. Core Membership The Head of School chair all full-time academic members of the School representatives of the support staff.
