7. Tender

Although he has bad characters, Chick still has some good characters. He actually really loves his mother. It can be seen from his thought. He adores her so much especially when she makes some jokes. She does not mind smearing ice cream on her face for laugh. She likes making odd voice of Popeye the Sailor Man or Luis Armstrong. Chick loves it so much. Still, I CAN say I adored my mother, in the way that boys adore their mothers while taking them for granted. She made that easy. For one thing, she was funny. She didn’t mind smearing ice cream on her face for laugh. She did odd voice, like Popeye the Sailor Man, or Luis Armstrong croaking 32. Chick’s being tender is also seen from his reaction when he finds his friends looking at his mother’s room. His love is shown when he finds his friends watching his mother changing her clothes. He cannot accept that fact. He does not want anyone does something terrible to his mother. He wants to protect his mother as hard as he could. Therefore, he ran to them. He is not afraid although they are bigger than him. He fights against his friends who do that action. He jumps them from behind and throws punches at anything that moves 69. Chick actually loves his mother so much. He feels desperate and lost when he knows about his mother death. He never thinks about that before. It is seen from his thought given by the author. When he hears the news about his mother’s death, he feels that it cracks a hole inside his brain 172. 34 In Chick’s being together with his mother, he shows that he loves his mother. It is seen from his speech during that time. He says that he wishes they did the time together before. Hence, he wants to repeat their being together from the past because he feels he has missed many wonderful times with his mother. He feels that he does not use his time well with his mother before she dies 174.

8. Wishy-washy

Chick is a wishy-washy person. He is sometimes confused in making a decision. First he can choose the decision, but then he can change his decision. It is seen from his speech and his thought when he gets a call from his father. His father tells him that he can play in a baseball team. However, Chick cannot go because that day is his mother’s birthday. At first, he refuses his father’s offer because he wants to stay with his mother and family in that occasion. He remembers what his mother says about being a good boy. He feels guilty if he leaves on that day. He thinks that his father ruins his concentration. However, he thinks of his father’s offer and decides to accept his father’s offer. Therefore, he decides to go to the baseball team on that day and leaves his family 159-161.
