3. Sifat pengendalian social The nature of social control
Ada dua sifat pengendalian social, yaitu preventif dan represif. There are two characteristics of social control, those are
preventive and repressive.
1. Preventif Preventive
Pengendalian social preventif adalah pengendalian social yang dilakukan sebelum terjadi pelangaran.
Pengendalian social bersifat pencegahan agar tidak terjadi suatu pelangaran atau penyimpangan. Contoh
pengendalian social yang bersifat preventif : Preventive social control is a social control which is done
before member of a community commits foulation. This type of social control is to prevent someone from commit
foulation or violation. The examples of preventive social control are:

a Untuk mencegah anaknya bertengkar, Pak Ismet melarang anaknya bermain di luar rumah.
To prevent his children from quarelling, Mr Ismet forbid his children to play outside.
b Guru menasihati murid-muridnya agar menghindari tawuran dan narkoba.
Teacher advises the students to stay away from drugs and gang fight.
2. Represif Repressive
Pengendalian social represif adalah pengendalian yang dilakukan setelah terjadi penyimpangan. Cara ini bertujuan
memulihkan keadaan seperti sebelum terjadi penyimpangan. Contoh pengendalian secara represif:
Repressive social control is a control done after member of a community commits foul. This type of control is a way
to restore the condition of the society just like before the foul committed. The examples of repressive social control
are:
a Hakim menjatuhkan hukuman sepuluh tahun kepada terpidana tindak korupsi.
A judge gives a ten years punishment to someone who is convicted for corruption
b Guru menskor muridnya yang melanggar tata tertib sekolah.
