Data Source Method and Technique of Collecting Data

about approaches methods and techniques of English teaching which were used by the teacher in SMAN 1 Tabanan. Beside interview, direct observation was done in the classroom such as watching and noting systematically to phenomenon investigated. The observation was done two times at I Putu Yoga Purandina and Yetty Artasari class was taught in one and half hours, the class started from 09.00 a.m. until 10.30 a.m. The observation process was focused only on the teaching steps in order the methods and techniques that applied by both of the teachers and then the teacher’s mastery on the language being used, method and techniques. The obtained data during observation was noted by note taking technique.

1.5.3 Method and Technique Analyzing Data

The data were analyzed by using qualitative method. The qualitative method ware used to describe the characteristic of the data. The process of analyzing the data of this study were done by following steps; first, the interview result were analyzed by listening to the record and taking a note in order to classify the point of approaches, methods, techniques, and difficulties from the information. Second, the result of the interviews was combined with the result of the observation that has been done in the classroom. Third, the data were classified by theories that purposed some experts. In analyzing the approach and method of English Language skill teaching using the theory proposed by Richards Rodgers 1986, the theory proposed by Larsen 2000 was used to analyze the techniques of English Language skill teaching, the difficulties faced by the teaching in implementing the methods and techniques was analyzed using the theory proposed by Brooks 1964, and also supporting by theories from Brown 1994. The triangulation technique has been used in order to analyzing the data of this study. The triangulation technique is determines into three: check, recheck, and cross check. This technique was taken in three times First, the analyzed data from interview with the teachers were checked, second, the data from the teachers were re-checked again to make sure there is no mistake after the data has been collected. Third, the cross check techniques were conducted in this study. Cross check is the last technique in triangulation technique which has function to measure the level of accuracy data. The crosscheck technique was done by comparing the result of the data with the observation in the class.
