first meeting of the Intermediate Listening Class. Those topics were chosen because the researcher uses the same gamification cycle in every topic. Therefore,
the researcher uses those topics as an example of the gamification cycle work in the designed materials. The topics were stated in this following table:
Table 4.3 The Learning Topics of the Materials
Meeting Learning Topic
1 Mobile Phones
2 Milestones in Technology
3 Dessert from the Desert
4 Pheromone
From those topics, the researcher tried to develop listening supplementary material using gamification which can be accessed by the students outside the
class. The designed materials were developed in the same topic stated in Table 4.3. In addition, the researcher also developed the material based on the specific
skills stated before. The list of topics and skills for each topic helped the researcher to develop appropriate supplementary listening material using
gamification. The topics and specific skills were elaborated in the table below.

After that, the researcher started to develop the course sequence which contained the supplementary learning materials. To make the course sequence
easy to understand, the researcher prepared a lesson plan format. The lesson plan PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI

format explains the course sequence in general because the researcher used the same lesson plan format for all topics. The lesson plan format is elaborated in
Appendix C. In the designed material, each topic contains two different activities. The
activities consist of quizzes and assignments. It depends on the specific skill that has been learnt on that meeting. Therefore, the lesson plan is flexible to change in
order to provide appropriate learning activities.
4. Small Scale Feasibility Testing
In this step, the researcher tried to make small scale feasibility testing in the designed material. The testing process was carried out in some activities for
instance quizzes, online graded tests, or online assignments. In gamification, those activities can be used t
o test students’ understanding towards the material given. The user of the designed material can use the feature of the material to motivate
students to learn. In addition to the small scale feasibility testing, the researcher also
provided rewards which can substitute the mark in the face-to-face learning process. Those rewards were given if the students met the criteria set by the
researcher. Rewards serve as stimuli to motivate students to get more rewards in order to get more achievements.
In the designed material, the rewards were in a form of points, badges, levels, achievements, and also leader board. Those rewards used to measure

students’ learning process. Furthermore, the admin or teacher who used the designed material can track their student
s’ activity during their learning process.
C. Developing Preliminary Form of Product
In this step, the researcher developed supplementary listening material using gamification based on the topics and skills prepared in the previous step. In
order to develop the material using gamification, the researcher used a website which provided gamification features. Therefore, the researcher used Edmodo as a
free and easy website which shared gamification features. In the designed materials, there were four main folders. Those folders were listening materials,
my quizzes, my assignments, and listening links. Listening Material folder is containing four folders for each topic. There were mobile phones, milestones in
technology, dessert from the desert, and pheromones. Those sub-folders are containing listening audio and video related to the topic. The audio or video
provided in different length, speed, and accent. The aim was to provide various listening material to facilitate students to improve their listening skill.

My Quizzes folder is containing online quizzes for the Intermediate Listening students. The online quizzes were presented in a form of true or false, short
question and answer, and multiple choice. Those quizzes were made based on the listening passage which provided in the listening material folder. Therefore, each
60
listening material has their quiz. Each online quiz also has its specific time. This was meant to challenge students to finish the quiz as soon as possible. In this quiz,
the students were allowed to look at their notes. However, they only have one attempt in each quiz. The online quiz is also integrated to the grading book.

My Assignments folder contains online assignments which are related to the listening materials. Each listening material has its own assignment. The
assignments were provided in a form of essay questions which attached in the post. In addition, the assignments were downloadable. It helped the students to do
the assignments without internet connection. By finishing the assignment, the users would get personal feedback from the administrator of the designed
materials. The feedback would be based on the rubric provided in the table below. PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI

Listening Links folder is an additional folder for Intermediate Listening students. This folder contains useful listening links which are still related to the
topic. The students are allowed to access those links anytime. It is provided for the students who want to practice more.

The supplementary listening material using gamification also provides points and badges for the students. The points were used to assess students’ participation.
Students would get the points if they complete the quiz. Each quiz also gives them 1 point for the correct answer. They also get a point if they participated on the
group discussion. In addition, Edmodo also provides badges which can be managed by the
administrator. Administrator could manage the badges for the students because Edmodo provides several badges for instance participant, good citizen, hard
worker, or assignment helper. In addition, administrator could add new badges if necessary. In this case, administrator could give the badges based on the progress
of the students. Therefore, the administrator can still monitor students’ learning
progress. In this case, the researcher made a table of rewards which provided in Edmodo.
