Data Analysis Techniques Trustworthiness

E. Data Analysis Techniques

The researcher applied textual analysis in this research since it dealt with language and symbols. According to Vanderstoep and Johnston 2009: 210, textual analysis involves the identification and interpretation of verbal or non- verbal signs. Thus, the researcher was able to investigate the data by analyzing the aspects of language as presented in the previous discussion. Then, the procedures of the data analysis were presented as follows. 1. The researcher classified the data into the categories as shown in the data sheet. 2. The researcher applied trustworthiness by discussing with friends and lecturers. 3. The researcher analyzed, described, interpreted, and explained the data. 4. The researcher drew and derived conclusions based on the result of data analysis.

F. Trustworthiness

This research applied triangulation to check the credibility, validity, and truthfulness of the data. Triangulation refers to the techniques to check the data by using something outside the data to enhance confidence in ensuing findings Moleong, 2001: 178. In addition, the researcher had done triangulation of the data by consulting to her supervisors and peer reviewers. Furthermore, by involving them, the researcher was helped to find the mistakes and errors during the analysis. 44 CHAPTER IV FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION This chapter presents the research findings based on the objectives of the research: to describe and analyze the types of figures of speech by contrast, to reveal and explain the functions of figures of speech by contrast, and to convey and explain the reflection of figures of speech by contrast to the themes in Sherlock Holmes TV-Series the Final Problem Episode. The findings are presented in the form of a table. In addition, the findings of this research are also elaborated and explained in details in the discussion section.
