Total Base Number TBN and Fuel Sulfur Levels for Caterpillar Direct Injection Diesel Engines Caterpillar Fluids Diesel Engine Oil DEO

145 Consult your Caterpillar dealer for the latest oil recommendations. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, Lubricant Viscosities. Some commercial oils that meet the API specifications may require shortened oil change intervals. The oil change intervals are determined by monitoring the oil conditions. The oil change intervals are also determined by wear metal analysis. The Caterpillar SOS Oil Analysis Program is preferred.

1. Total Base Number TBN and Fuel Sulfur Levels for Caterpillar Direct Injection Diesel Engines

The TBN that is required in a new oil is dependent on the fuel sulfur level of the fuel that is being used. For direct injection engines that run on distillate diesel fuel, the minimum TBN of the new oil should be 10 times the fuel sulfur level. The TBN of the new oil is defined by ASTM D2896. The absolute minimum TBN is five, even when low sulfur fuels are used. Refer to Illustration 69. Illustration 69 Y The TBN that is shown by ASTM D2896 X Percentages of fuel sulfur by weight 1TBN of new oil 2 Limit of used oil TBN When the fuel sulfur exceeds 1.5 percent, choose an oil with the highest TBN that is within the API CG-4 or CF-4 categories. Shorten the oil change interval according to the oil analysis. The oil analysis should evaluate the oil condition and engine wear metals. A high TBN oil that is not within API CG-4 category or API CF-4 category can produce excessive piston deposits. This can lead to a loss of oil control and to polishing of the cylinder bore. NOTICE Operation at fuel sulfur levels over 1.0 percent may require shortened oil change periods to maintain adequate wear protection.

2. Caterpillar Fluids

Caterpillar fluids have been approved by Caterpillar in order to provide the performance and the life of Caterpillar components. Caterpillar fluids that are currently Di unduh dari : Bukupaket.com 146 used for engines and for machines are offered by Caterpillar dealers. Caterpillar fluids are also offered for continued refills. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for more information on these Caterpillar fluids. Caterpillar recommends the use of the following Caterpillar fluids: ar Multigrade Diesel Engine Oil DEO ar TransmissionDrive Train Oil TDTO ar Multipurpose Tractor Oil MTO ar Hydraulic Oil HYDO ar Biodegradable Hydraulic Oil HEES ar Gear Oil GO ar Multipurpose Lithium Grease MPG ar Multipurpose Molybdenum Grease ar Special Purpose Grease SPG ar Premium Grease CPG ar Extended Life Coolant ELC ar Diesel Engine AntifreezeCoolant CATERPILLAR DIESEL ENGINE OIL DEO Caterpillar DEO has been formulated with detergents, with dispersants, and with sufficient alkalinity in order to provide superior performance in Caterpillar diesel engines. The multigrade DEO is blended in SAE 10W30 and in SAE 15W40. Use the table of lubricant viscosities to choose the correct viscosity grade that is based on ambient temperatures. Multigrade oils provide the correct viscosity for a broad range of operating temperatures and for cold engine starts. Multigrade oils are also effective in maintaining low oil consumption and low concentrations of deposits on the pistons. For maximum performance in the engines in Caterpillar machines, Caterpillar recommends the following engine oil:

1. Diesel Engine Oil DEO

Multigrade DEO can be used in other diesel engines and in gasoline engines. Consult the engine manufacturers guide for the recommended specifications. Compare the engine manufacturers specifications to the specifications of Caterpillar DEO. The current Caterpillar specifications are listed on the label and on the product data sheets. • Caterpil • Caterpil • Caterpil • Caterpil • Caterpil • • Caterpil • • Caterpil • Caterpil MPGM Di unduh dari : Bukupaket.com 147
