Cooling System Cleaning SOS Coolant Analysis

153 CONVENTIONAL COOLANT ANTIFREEZE COOLING SYSTEM MAINTENANCE To ensure that the cooling system has adequate freeze protection, frequently check the antifreeze solution in cold weather. To monitor the concentration of supplemental cooling additive SCA, test the concentration. You may also send a coolant sample to your Caterpillar dealer in order to test the concentration of SCA. Check the concentration after every 250 service hours or after every month. The machine may need a supplemental coolant additive or a maintenance coolant additive element after every 250 service hours or after every month. NOTICE To prevent over-inhibiting the engines cooling system, do not use both supplemental coolant additive liquid and a supplemental coolant additive element if equipped at the same time. Use one method exclusively. When Diesel Engine AntifreezeCoolant is used with a supplemental coolant additive, perform the following maintenance procedures after every 3000 service hours or after every year. • Drain the cooling system. • Clean the cooling system. • Flush the cooling system. • Fill the cooling system. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, Cooling System Coolant - Change. When Diesel Engine AntifreezeCoolant is not used with a supplemental coolant additive, perform the flushing procedure after every year. After you drain the cooling system and after you refill the cooling system, make sure that the radiator cap is removed. Operate the engine until the coolant reaches normal operating temperature and the coolant level stabilizes. Fill the cooling system to the proper level by adding the coolant mixture

1. Cooling System Cleaning

Drain the cooling system. Clean the cooling system. Flush the cooling system. Perform these three procedures in order to remove the following pollutants: small particles, unwanted chemicals, scale and deposit formations. If cooling system maintenance is not performed, the engine may develop overheating problems. Overheating problems can cause severe damage to the engine and to components. Clean the cooling system if you observe any of the following problems: • The cooling system becomes contaminated. • The engine overheats. Di unduh dari : Bukupaket.com 154 • Foaming is observed. Use Caterpillar Fast Acting Cooling System Cleaner to clean harmful scale and corrosion. This cleaner dissolves the following pollutants: mineral scale, corrosion products, light oil contamination and sludge. Caterpillar Fast Acting Cooling System Cleaner is available from your Caterpillar dealer in the quantities that are listed below. Table 19 Caterpillar Fast Acting Cooling System Cleaner Part Number Size 4C-4609 .47 L .5 qt 4C-4610 .95 L 1 qt 4C-4611 3.8 L 1 US gal 4C-4612 19 L 5 US gal 4C-4613 208.5 L 55 US gal For proper use, follow the instructions that are listed on the product label.

2. SOS Coolant Analysis

Testing the coolant can be done at your Caterpillar dealer. Caterpillar SOS Coolant Analysis is the best way to monitor the condition of your coolant and your cooling system. SOS Coolant Analysis is a program that is based on periodic samples. The 8T-5296 Test Kit can be used to evaluate the concentration of SCA. However, the following modifications must be made in STEP 3 and in STEP 5. STEP 3- Add tap water to the vial up to the 20 ml mark. STEP 5- When the defined procedure is used, a concentration of 6 percent to 8 percent will yield between 20 drops and 27 drops. If the number of drops is below 20 drops, the concentration of SCA is low. If the number of drops is above 27 drops, the concentration of SCA is high. Make the appropriate adjustments to the concentration of SCA. If the concentration of SCA is above the maximum of 8 percent, drain some of the coolant mixture. Refill the system with acceptable water. Retest the concentration.
