Based on the results of the questionnaire above, all of the students started learning English at school before they entered Junior High school. Even 13.33
of them started learning English from kindergarten. None of them started learning English from Elementary school grade 6. These results showed that English was
not new for them. Since this research focused on English reading materials and skills, the
questions in the questionnaire were mostly specified into the matters related to reading. There were questions which the students might answer more than one
options and there were also questions which the students might freely answer based on their opinion.
From the questions number 2, it could be seen that the students realized the importance of English reading skill for their present and future life. 72
students stated English reading skill was very important. The rest or 28 of the students stated that English reading skill was important. Nobody stated that this
skill was not important. The third question asked the students why they needed to have English
reading skill for. There were five options provided, they were: studying; communicating with foreigners; working in the future life; passing national final
