D. Research Findings
Analyzing the data of the study, the researcher found several findings to answer the problems of the research: 1 Can “Play School DVD” improve the
students’ vocabulary mastery?; 2 What are the strengths and the weaknesses of the implementation of Play School DVD in improving the students’ vocabulary
mastery? The research findings are presented in the following section.
1. Improvement of the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery.
Before the study, the researcher found that the students in class 1E faced problems in vocabulary mastery. They got problems in pronouncing the word,
spelling the word, knowing the meaning of the word, and constructing the word into s simple sentence. The researcher tried to solve the problems by using Play
School DVD so that the students’ vocabulary mastery could be improved. The
result of teaching and learning vocabulary using Play School DVD showed that the students’ vocabulary mastery improved.
The improvement can be observed by comparing: a the scores of Pre-test and Post-test 1; b the scores of Post-test 1
and Post-test 2.

The table above indicates that the improvement of vocabulary mastery was reached by the students. The highest score increased from 80.33 in Pre-test to 95
in Post-test 1. The lowest score increased from 12.92 in Pre-test to 37.92 in Post- test 1. The average score increased from 38.87 in Pre-test to 66.58 in Post-test 1.
The students’ scores viewed from their skills also improved. It can be seen in the following table:

The data show that the highest score for pronunciation increased from 83.33 in Pre-test to 100 in Post-test 1. The lowest score also increased from 16.67
in Pre-test to 50 in Post-test 1. The average increased from 46.53 in Pre-test to 88.19 in Post-test 1. The highest score for spelling also increased from 80 in Pre-
test to 100 in Post-test 1. The lowest score increased from 0 in Pre-test to 20 in Post-test 1. The average increased from 34.17 in Pre-test to 53.33. The highest
score for understanding word meaning increased from 80 in Pre-test to 100 in Post-test 1. The lowest score increased from 35 in Pre-test to 40 in Post-test 1.
The average increased from 59.17 in Pre-test to 80 in Post-test 1. The highest score and the lowest score for the using of word remind the same, 100 for the
highest score and 0 for the lowest score. The average increased from 15.625 in Pre-test to 44.79 in Post-test 1.
