while the students listen the song, correcting together in blackboard, and collecting the lyrics.
In reference to the discussion in the previous chapter, it can be inferred that the use of missing lyrics songs is believed to be effective to improve students’
listening skills. To support this result, there are two kinds of data presented in this research. The first data are qualitative data; as another data are quantitative data. It
can be seen as follows:
1. From the result of the beginning observation done toward VIII D
students of SMPN 2 Kalasan, there were some problems found related to the teaching and learning of listening. They dealt with media and the
teacher technique. 2.
The researcher with the English teacher developed strategic planning to improve writing skills of VIII D students of SMPN 2 Kalasan in the
academic year of 20132014 through missing lyrics songs. 3.
The researcher with the English teacher implemented the strategic actions in two cycles in which each of the cycles consisted of three
meetings. They applied missing lyrics songs. 4.
The researcher with the English teacher did a reflection in each cycle to evaluate the actions implemented.
5. The use of missing lyrics songs improved students’ motivation in
learning the materials. The students were enthusiastic to learn since missing lyrics songs offer the interesting design for learning. Moreover,

missing lyrics songs improved students’ listening skills. The students’ improvement in listening skills can be seen from the mean scores of
each cycle.
