4. Responsiveness
Responsiveness is the expression to affirm another person ‟s opinion and to
show interest on what the speaker said. There were two expressions of responsiveness found in Angelina‟s utterances.

Jane : What did you think of Dr. Wexler? His questions were a bit wishy-
washy.
The conversation happened in Smith‟s house after they came back from
Dr. Wexler meeting. In this conversation, she asked John ‟s opinion about their
marriage consultant. Her question indicated that she wanted her husband to give his opinion about their marriage consultant, but he did not answer or responded
Jane‟s utterance. Jane asked John because she respected him as her husband. She valued him and wanted to know his opinion about their marriage consultant.

The conversation happened in the living room after John came back from his office.
Jane wanted to know John‟s opinion about the new curtain that she had just bought. Her utterance was considered as responsiveness because she expected
that John would give Jane his opinion or praise her about the new curtain but he
