CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION
A. The Description of Data
The research used questionnaire in VIII English Bina Prestasi 1 class to get motivation score. This class consists of 32 students; however 1 student
did not come because she was sick. So, the respondents became 31 students. Before that, the first research was to know the validity of the data. In English
learning score, the data collected from the English teacher of VIII English Bina Prestasi 1 class. The score was taken from the midterm test that was
conducted in the first semester. Finally, the data was analyzed to know the correlation between
students’ motivation and their English learning achievement with formula of Pearson Product Moment SPSS Program and Microsoft Excel program for
comparison.
1. The Students’ Motivation Score
Students’ motivation score as X variable Independent variable in this study. To get the score, the research was conducted through
questionnaire in VIII English Bina Prestasi class 1 as the sample. The table below
describes the result of the students’ motivation questionnaire .

the motivation scores are converted into achievement score by score balance See Appendixes, p.
2. The Students’ English Learning Achievement Score
The Y variable dependent variable, students’ English learning
score took from their midterm school report. The description of data as below:

3. The Correlation between Students’ Motivation and their English
Learning Achievement Score
To see how correlation between students’ motivation and their
achievement, it is calculated through Pearson Product Moment.
