The evidences of Hillary’s utterances in the videos were provided and discussed to support the data presentation. Then, the evidences of each feature were bolded in the running text that indicated the current feature which was discussed. 1. Lexical Hedges or Fillers

Based on Lakoff as cited by Fillmore, G. Lakoff and R. Lakoff 1974, lexical hedges or fillers express a lack of confidence and reflect of women’s insecurity e. g. aaa, well, you know. In Hillary’s utterances, lexical hedges or fillers appeared the most in the selected videos. There were 422 fillers. In first video that entitled Hillary Clinton Keynote Speech - 18th Annual Dinkins Forum, there were just 5 fillers that appeared. At that time, Hillary gave her speech at Colombia University about criminal justice reform. In her speech, Hillary informed that Manhattan Borough President also came attending the event but it seemed like it was difficult for her to inform it as well. So, in [1] showed that she used some fillers aaa in her utterance while she was thinking something to say in order to not to say something wrong. [1]“I also know that [aaa] Manhattan Borough President [aaa] Gale Brewer is here, along with other [aaa] local and community [aaa] leaders.” PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI That filler helped her to solve the difficulty and avoid the mistake by saying aaa without altering the meaning. It also gave Hillary to think for a while about the best word using to inform it well. Some fillers also appeared in the other videos. Like in the ninth video, when she was interviewed by Kara Swisher, she used word ‘well’ in the beginning of her answer. In the ninth video, there were 104 fillers that found. It was not only found in the ninth video but also in the other videos. Hillary often used word well to begin her statements before answering the questions that given. Hillary might use this feature unconsciously to strengthen her utterances. Here is the piece of the conversation between Kara and Hillary. Kara Swisher: “Why wait announcing? There are all these women here in Silicon Valley, which is an anomaly. This is an anomaly, let me tell you.” [2]Sec. Hillary Clinton: “Well, all in good time is sort of my response because theres a lot to think about. I have to tell you. I dont know how many of you are list makers, I have a very long list. Im going down it. Im very committed to go down it, but I havent checked off the last couple of things here.” Another filler that appeared the most in the videos was you know. Hillary also often used word you know when she was interviewed in answering the questions but it was rarely found in her formal speeches. Here is one of the evidences that found in the eighth video. [3]”And I think, from what I read in the papers, what Graham said is, you know, when youre for something, you need to be all-in and not try to be half in, half out.” PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI In the middle of [3], she applied the filler in her answer when she was asked about the future of American politics. In the eighth video, there were 61 fillers that found. Somehow, she felt doubtful to express her words in answering the question. She might think whether the questioner understood or not about her answer. Finally, all the Hillary’s utterances in the videos conformed to fillers. She made a lot of meaningless parts which did not alter the point or ideas of her statements in her speeches or interviews. It happened because she had to avoid the wrong statement that might be able to appear misunderstandings but it was not because she was lack of confidence. The researcher looked in the videos, Hillary was so confident when answering the questions. She just wanted that the audience could understand about what she was saying.
