The results will be explained as in Table 4.5. 87 Table 4.5 The Results of the Open-Ended Question about th e Students’ Perception on the Use of Edmodo in Writing Descriptive Text No Question Answer n1 n2 2. Even though there were two responses tow ards the students’ perception on the use of Edmodo in writing descriptive text, the total percentage of the positive response was higher than the negative response. So, it could be concluded that the students had a positive perception on the use of Edmodo in writing descriptive text. Although the result of the questionnaire from the close-ended and open- ended showed that the students had a positive perception towards of the use of Edmodo in writing descriptive text, the researcher still interviewed six students in order to enrich the data relate d to the students’ perception on the use of Edmodo in writing descriptive text. 2. How Edmodo helps students in developing their writing skills.

In this part, the researcher presents the data gained from the interview and direct observation in order to discover the second research question related to how the Edmodo helps the students in developing their writing skills. The researcher analyzed the data based on the result of the interview and direct observation that the researcher did during the respondents used the Edmodo in writing descriptive text. By having a direct observation, the researcher could have an accurate data that support the result of the interviews which were gained from the respondents. Therefore, combining the direct observation and the interview could be a good way to discover the findings of the second research question. According to Duncan and Chandler 2011; Halm et al. 2012, Edmodo is a private social platform which provides a secure space for teachers and students to connect and collaborate as cited in Mathupayas, 2013, p. 2. By using Edmodo, teacher and students can be connected one another so that they can share their ideas and communicate to each other. In addition, Edmodo is a medium for the students to publish and share their writing project where the other students can give comments and suggestions directly. Besides that, teacher also can give feedbacks towards the students’ writing directly. Therefore, it will help them in developing their writing skills. Based on the answer result of the first research question which can be seen in Appendix I p. 134, the respondents had positive perception on the use of Edmodo in writing descriptive text. The positive perception will bring positive motivation in achieving the goals of learning especially in writing descriptive text. 91 Huffman, Vernoy, and Vernoy 2000, through Incentive Psychological Theories, say that motivation is resulted from environmental stimuli that pull the organism in certain directions. So, if the students have a positive response on the use of Edmodo in writing descriptive text it means that they also have a positive perception which causes motivation in learning. Therefore, students can easily develop their writing skills by using Edmodo in writing descriptive text. Based on those explanations, the researcher interviewed six students about their opinion whether they got more motivated to learn English by using Edmodo or not. The result which could be seen in Appendix L p. 147 showed that all of the students got more motivated to learn English through using Edmodo. Student 1 and 26 said that they got more motivated because Edmodo was easy to use. Then, Student 19 also said that she got more motivated because Edmodo could be simpler to be read and then she did not need to write in a paper. Meanwhile, Students 29 said that she got more motivated to do her assignment in Edmodo because she could see her fri ends’ work in Edmodo which made her to do her assignment better. According to those data, it can be concluded that most of the students were motivated with learning English when they were using Edmodo especially in writing descriptive text. Therefore, when the students had a high motivation to learn it encouraged them to develop their writing skills. Improving the students’ writing is crucial for the teacher Walvoord, 1985, p. 1. Therefore, teachers should have an appropriate way to teach writing in order to help the students in developing their writing skills. Edmodo is one of the good ways to teach writing. Based on all the definitions described in Chapter II, it was 92 explained that by using Edmodo students could publish and submit their writing assignments easily. Besides that, they could share their ideas by giving comments and suggestions to the othe r friends’ writing. Teachers could also give feedbacks into their studen ts’ writing and the students could revise it easily. By correcting their writing, students could easily develop their writing skills. Based on those definitions, the researcher observed the students’ activity in Edmodo in order to get the data. The example of the activities which the teacher and students did in Edmodo in order to d evelop the students’ writing could be seen in Figure 4.1 and Figure 4.2 below: Figure 4.1 The First Students’ Writing Project 93 Figure 4.1 was the firs t students’ writing project. Figure 4.1. showed that there were some students who commented in order to give suggestions and even only give a compliment to that writing project. After having the suggestions from the other students and also feedbacks from the teacher, that writing project should be corrected in order to have a better writing project and it will be the final writing which was ready to be submitted to the teacher. The final writing project can be seen in the following page in Figure 4.2. Figure 4.2 The Final Students’ Writing Project Based on the Figure 4.2, it could be seen that there are some changes in the final stu dents’ writing project. It meant that the other friends’ suggestions and the 94 teacher’s feedbacks were very significant in developing the students’ writing skills. In order to answer the second research question of this research which was about how the Edmodo helped the students in developing their writing skills, the researcher interviewed six students and observed the respondents when they were using Edmodo in writing descriptive text. The data gained from the interview showed that all of the students said that Edmodo helped them to develop their skills in writing descriptive text. They could develop their writing by giving suggestion to each other so that it made their writing better. Student 4 said that Edmodo was helpful for her. For example, she wanted to write one apple, she did not need to add s in the word of apple but if she wanted to write some apple she should add s in the word of apple. Student 26 also said that Edmodo was helpful enough. For example, if he wanted to say one apple he should say an apple not a apple . Then, Student 29 also said that Edmodo was helpful. When she had an assignment in Edmodo, she got some comments from her teacher or her friends so that it developed her assignment about writing descriptive text. In fact, the students successfully made a better writing by using Edmodo than they only made a writing assignment in the paper. Based on those results, it could be concluded that using Edmodo in writing descriptive text was very helpful for the students in developing their writing skills. Students needed more practices to make a good writing project. In order to make a good writing, students needed to revise their writing not only at once but revised it repeatedly. Moreover, students needed the other suggestions in order to develop
