Conducting the Survey Research Procedure

52 in each category in order to know whether the category was considered as a positive or negative response. The positive criterion was based on the mean of 2.5 – 4. Meanwhile, the negative criterion was based on the mean of 1 – 2.4. The result of the data percentage distribution can be seen in the Appendix I p. 134.

B. Data Analysis and Interpretation

In order to answer the first research question, the researcher presents the result firstly per part by computing the mean of each part in this section. The researcher also divided the statements of the questionnaire into three parts: students’ background related to the general information, the implementation of Edmodo, and the students’ perception on the use of Edmodo in writing descriptive text. The further information of the mean computation can be seen in Appendix J p. 140. After that, the researcher tried to interpret per item in each category based on the data which are summarized in the percentage form. This research analysis and interpretation were based on the data acquired from the questionnaire distributed and also supported by the result of the interview. Then, the researcher presents the data which is gained from the interview in order to answer the second research question about how Edmodo helps the students in developing their writing skills. Furthermore, the researcher analyzed the data in a form of descriptive analysis. Moreover, the researcher also described what the researcher had obtained from the observa tion towards the students’ actions in using Edmodo in writing descriptive text. The observation is used to complete and clarify the data from the interview. 53

1. Students’ perception on the use of Edmodo in writing descriptive text.

a. Part A - Students’ background related to the general information.

Based on the data obtained from the questionnaire, the mean of the students’ background is 3.1. It meant that the students had a positive background. As stated in Chapter II, Lindsay and Norman 1977 state that perception is the process by which organism interpreting and organizing sensation to produce a meaningful experience of the world as cited in Pickens, 2005, p. 52. The person interprets the stimuli into something meaningful to them based on prior experiences. T he questionnaire’s data were present in Table 4.1.
