1. Students’ Suggestions on the Teaching Lower Semester Process Based on

Open-Ended Questions That is true that most of the Microteaching students considered the lower semester teaching positively. However, the researcher found that there were some weaknesses in the implementation. It was showed from some suggestions wrote by the students in open-ended questions result. Some students had positive comments toward the teaching lower semester program that had been held so far. To show their satisfaction on the implementation of teaching lower semester, they wrote, “My suggestion is microteaching especially teaching lower semester have to conduct in every year because it is important to improve the teaching skill.” “I hope that teaching lower semester in microteaching class can still be continued in the future to enhance students’ speaking, listening, reading or writing skill. Students will get an experience in teaching.” Further, some students felt a difficulty in selecting the lower semester class to teach, so one of the students said that he could not find available class to teach. They suggested that there should be a good communication between the students, lecturers of Microteaching, and lecturers of the class chosen to teach about the selecting the lower semester class especially about the time. The students wrote: “Time for search and choose the subject between class and other classes is the same. So, it’s fair.” “The lecturer of microteaching class should have good communication between the lecturer and the students. I found that there’s no class available since the other students tried to get the class before the instruction.” “There is an arrangement for the lower semester class that we should be taught.” Still about the selecting the lower semester class to teach, one of the Microteaching students suggested that it would be better that the lecturer could help her to choose the class. She felt confused to select the class because most of her friends had taken classes that she wanted to teach. She wrote: “I think when we choose the lower class it should be decided by the lecturer of microteaching class because I was confused to select when all the class has been chosen.” Moreover, the students gave the suggestion to the other student who conducted the lower semester teaching. They considered that the Microteaching student should prepare their selves well before teaching by doing the class observation to know the students and to design the appropriate material to teach later. Still concerning about the planning stage before the teaching, they also suggested that the students have to possess adequate lesson plan consultation with lecturer of the lower semester class. The students wrote: “It will be better to have really good preparation.” “We should know the student better the characteristic before we teach them.” “Observation before do the teaching, consult the lesson plan and the materials are important to do, be friendly with them, appreciate all of their opinions, answer, etc.” PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI 62 “It is important to know the students need before teaching observation them so that we can make an appropriate materials and activities for them.” “Make sure the practitioners have enough consultation before teaching.” “It is better if we can consult the lesson plan first to the lecturer before teaching.” Furthermore, the students gave some suggestions to the lecturer of lower semester class to obtain better benefit from the implementation of teaching lower semester in general. They expected that the lecturer of lower semester could give them more chances to have observation in the lower semester class, so they could prepared the material better. Dealing with the lesson plan consultation, the students suggested the lecturer of lower semester class to give feedback to their lesson plan because one of the students had not obtained the feedback yet. In addition, the students gave the suggestion to lecturer of lower semester to inform the students about the time to teach in lower semester class at least one week before teaching so that they could make good preparation. “Lecturer’s feedback for student-teacher is very important. It’s better if after doing microteaching, the lecturer gives supporting advice and comments.” “Lecturers should give feedback to our lesson plan my lecturer in lower class I was teaching didn’t give me feedback about my lesson plan.” “The lecturer should give the materials some weeks before, so that we can prepare it well.” “From my experience, I suggest the lecturer should give me more time to prepare the material because he informed me 2 days before I practice teaching. It makes me haven’t a good preparation. In addition one of them wrote that the students should teach in two different lower semester class to enhance their teaching skills. “Perhaps it will be more effective if we teach lower semester more than once. Maybe twice is enough. We will learn more about teaching if we teach more than once.” “Make it more than one meeting. Maybe 2 or 3. I love teaching lower semester.” “If there is much time, it’s better that 1 students can teach in more than 1 class let say 1 student has chance to teach in 2 different lower semester classes. It can enhance student teaching skills.” One of the students also suggested that the feedback taken from lower semester students being taught should be considered as one of the assessments aspect in Microteaching students’ teaching in the lower semester class. “I think comments given by the lower semester students should be taken more seriously or included in the grading of the teaching performance.”
