CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Figure of speech is an expression which uses words to means something different from their literary meaning . This research mostly talks about cigarette advertisement slogans which uses English in internet . There are two research questions which have presented in the first chapter and then continued by giving some related theories to solve the problem which have presented in the second chapter . Before arriving to the most important part of the research which is in chapter 4, the research must give the methodology for analyzing the data . After those chapters are done, the research arrives to the last chapter which is called conclusion and suggestion . This part will be divided into two parts . The first part will give some concluding statements toward the result and findings and the second part will give suggestions related to the future research with the similar topic .

A. Conclusion

As it has been explained in the first chapter of the research, there are two questions in this research . The first and second research question are answered by using figure of speech through semantics theory since it is also connected with the connotative meaning of the slogans . This research examines cigarette advertisement slogans which utilize English as the main language in internet . Hence, the data are taken from internet which provide advertisement slogans collection of data . The data sources are from various brands of cigarette in PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI Indonesia . Starting from the popular brand such as gudang garam, Djarum Super, wismilak, lucky strike, marlboro, dji sam soe and the unpopular brand such as gulden elite, master mild, nes mild, and many others . The following explanation will discuss those two research question of this research . The first research question What are types of figure of speech used in cigarette advertisement slogan in internet? It uses theory of figure of speech to recognize the figure of speech used cigarette advertisement slogans . There are eighty five main data found of cigarette advertisement slogans in internet which utilize English and have figure of speech as well . As the result in first research question, there are nine types figure of speech which are used in cigarette advertisement slogans . The first figure of speech found is epithet with forty one slogans and it is the most frequently figure of speech which are used in cigarette advertisement slogan . The second figure of speech is alliteration and followed by assonance, hyperbola, metonymy, anaphora, asyndeton, personification and antithesis as the last figure of speech used in cigarette advertisement slogans in internet . The first research question also deals with the definition and the character of each figure speech on cigarette slogan texts . Besides that, this part is associated with the literal meaning of the slogan text to get the intended meaning of the slogans . The second question of the research namely What are the purposes on the use of figure of speech in cigarette advertisement slogans in internet? To accomplish this research, there are four categories of purposes on the use of figure PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI of speech in cigarette advertisement slogans . They are firstly to make the slogan memorable, secondly creating strong impression and attractive, thirdly giving characteristics and symbols, and fourthly offering experience . The most dominant meaning found in cigarette advertisement slogans is making the slogan memorable since it deals with the repetition which are found in cigarette slogan texts . The use of repetition in alliteration, anaphora and assonance makes the slogans having nice pronunciation, easy to remember and catchy . Creating strong impression and attractive on the slogans can be found in personification and hyperbola . Personification personifies the abstract and inanimate things by adding the characteristics of animate thing or characteristics of human being . An exaggeration and overstatement in hyperbola make the slogans have strong impression and being attractive as well . The use of metonymy and epithet make the slogans give characteristics and symbol toward the slogans . They use adjective and noun which can be applied to describe the characteristic and the symbol of the brand . The next purpose is offering experience which can be found on the use of verb . Some cigarette slogans apply verb at the beginning of the slogan which is known as imperative . Offering experience means giving the recipient an experience by asking them to do something
