If you already have dial-up networking installed, you can skip to the configuring section that follows. Otherwise, install the feature and then configure it for remote access. Before you can use dial-up networking successfully, you need to make sure that both computers — yours and the one on the other end attached to the network — have the following network components installed: ✦ Client for Microsoft Networks ✦ A common network protocol ✦ File and Printer Sharing services ✦ A valid computer name in the Identification tab of the Network dialog box. Installing Dial-Up Networking You can install the dial-up networking feature if it’s not already installed in Windows 98. To check, open the My Computer window and look for the folder called Dial-Up Networking. If you don’t see it, you must install it. When installing dial-up networking, you might be prompted to insert the Windows Installation CD. Windows 2000 and XP come with dial-up networking installed.
