4.2.4 Brave
Lucie Manette is a brave woman. She shows a great act of bravery when she meets her father for the first time while his father is imprisoned in France. Dr.
Manette’s condition at that time is rather dangerous because he looks like a disturbed person. Even Mr. Lorry and Monsieur Defarge do not dare to approach
him. Although his condition is rather dangerous but Lucie Manette bravely approaches Dr. Manette and sit beside him. Furthermore Lucie Manette proposes
an idea to leave her alone with her father in that place without being afraid that something bad might happen to her pp. 36-40; ch 6; book 1.
Another time Lucie Manette shows her courage is during France Revolution. Lucie Manette bravely goes to France in order to save her husband
Charles Darnay. At that time her husband is being imprisoned in France without any chance to be released. Although at the time of the revolution France is really a
dangerous country yet Lucie Manette still goes to France to save her husband pp. 221-223; ch 2; book 3.
Lucie Manette also shows her bravery when she is asked by Dr. Manette to stand in a certain part of a road. By doing this, it will enable her husband to see
her and give him support although Lucie Manette will not be able to see Charles Darnay. It is actually dangerous to do that. The reason is that at the time of the
revolution by just standing on the road Lucie Manette might draw suspicion toward her. The suspicion might lead to her imprisonment because of something
that she does not do. Although this is dangerous yet she still bravely makes use of the plan that her father has proposed. From this we can see that Lucie Manette is a
really brave woman. She will do anything for the sake of her beloved one pp.
236-239; ch 5; book 3. Through her manners, it can be seen that Lucie Manette is a brave person.
She has shown her bravery in many occasions. Her actions for the sake of her beloved people really show that she is a brave person. She will gladly do anything
for the sake of her beloved one. She is even able to risk her own safety for the sake of people around her.
