4.2.2 Loving
Lucie Manette is also a loving person. As a daughter she loves her father so much that she is willing to take care her mentally illness father instead of
abandoning him. She will do everything in order to see her father recovered. She even accompanies Dr. Manette to walk up and down in the night. Her love is the
greatest support that Dr. Manette needs. In the end, it is because of Lucie Manette’s love that Dr. Manette is able to overcome his mental illness p.82; ch 6;
book 2. Even Charles Darnay is able to see that Lucie Manette loves his father so much. Charles Darnay knows that mingled with the affection and duty of a
daughter who has become a woman; there is all the love and reliances of infancy itself toward Dr. Manette p 112; ch 10; book 2.
Lucie Manette does not only love her father, but she also loves Charles Darnay so much. To prove her love to Charles Darnay who is being imprisoned in
France, Lucie Manette bravely goes to France just to see him. It is actually a dangerous deed to do because of the revolution that happens in France.
Furthermore, she is willing to go to the street near the prison chamber is. She does that in order for Charles Darnay to be able to see her even though she cannot him
p. 238-239; ch 5; book 3. Through another character point of view and mannerism, one can see that
Lucie Manette is a loving person. She will do anything to show her love for her beloved one. She is able to love every people unconditionally. Lucie Manette
loves every people around him from Dr. Manette to Sidney Carton.
4.2.3 Compassionate
Lucie Manette is also known for her compassion toward other people. The way she takes care of her father with love really shows that she is a compassionate
person. Even in the middle of the night she is willing to accompanying her father to walk up and down. To do what Lucie Manette has done to her father is not easy
because it takes a lot of patience and kindness p.82; ch 6; book 2. Sidney Carton also has the chance to feel Lucie Manettes’ compassion
towards him. Actually he loves her so much and one day he tells her his feelings. But unfortunately Lucie Manette does not love Sidney Carton. There is one more
thing that Sidney Carton asks Lucie Manette to do out of compassion and that is to keep the conversation a secret between them pp. 126-129; ch 13; book 2.
Another thing that Lucie Manette does for Sidney Carton out of compassion is when she tells her husband to give Sidney Carton more respects.
‘I think Charles, poor Mr. Carton deserves more consideration and respect that you expressed for him tonight.’
……. ‘I would ask you, dearest, to be very generous with him always and very
lenient on his faults when he is not by. I would ask you to believe that he has a heart he very, very seldom reveals, and that there are a deep wounds

From the conversation one can see that Lucie Manette is a compassionate person even for people which she could care less.
Through mannerism, one can see that Lucie Manette is a compassionate woman. Lucie Manette always shows her compassion for people in needs.
Wherever there are people in needs, she will show compassion toward them. Dr. Manette, Charles Darnay, and Sidney Carton have felt her compassion toward
them.
