CHAPTER IV RESEARCH RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

In this chapter, the researcher presents and discusses the results of the questionnaire. There are two discussions in this chapter. First, the researcher discusses the ELESP commu nity members‟ perception of blended learning in ELESP. Second, the researcher discusses the ELESP community members‟ suggestions to improve this approach in ELESP.

A. Participants

’ Perception of Blended Learning in ELESP In this part, the researcher analyzed the data to answer the first research question. The researcher distributed the questionnaire consisted of 47 statements to five lecturers and forty students batches 2011-2014. The questionnaire consisted of 47 statements. They were presented in the close-ended type. In order to give more options to answer the statements, the researcher provided five scales, namely strongly agree SA, agree A, undecided U, disagree D, and strongly disagree SD. In the close-ended type, the researcher provided two categories, namely the further information about blended learning and the blended learning implementation in ELESP.

’ Further Information about Blended Learning Responses In the further information about the blended learning category, the mean was 3.9. It showed that the participants had the positive perception in this category. This positive perception was gotten by counting the mean of this 54 category and analyzing statements 1-23. In this category, there were five specific discussions, namely, the participants‟ background of computer literacy, the participants‟ background of internet literacy, the background knowledge of blended learning, the advantages of blended learning, and the disadvantages of blended learning. Next, the researcher discussed the participants‟ background of the computer literacy. Table 4.1 Participants ’ Response to Computer Literacy No Statement Response Frequencies SA 5 A 4 U 3 D 2 SD 1 n n n n n 1 I have a computer or laptop. 37 82.22 7 15.56 - - 1 2.22 2 I do not know how to operate the computer or laptop. 1 2.22 1 2.22 - 10 22.22 33 73.33 3 I can use the technology, such as programs, or the Internet. 24 53.33 18 40.00 3 6.67 - - 4 My campus provides some computer labs for students. 25 55.56 18 40.00 2 4.44 - - 5 The computer skills are not needed in the future. 1 2.22 - - 12 26.67 32 71.11 Table 4.1 presented the participants‟ background of the computer literacy. Statement 1 confirmed the fact of the participants whether they had a computer or laptop. The results showed that there were 82.22 of the participants who strongly agreed, 15.56 of them who agreed, and 2.22 of them who strongly disagreed. From the results, most of the participants had their own computer or laptop by showing the result 97.78 of them who agreed.
