It must also be noted that the numbering of the items in the texts are discontinuous. The numbering starts at 1 again in each of the texts subsequent to the
first text. Thus, the number 1 in the place columns in the tables displaying attitude in Bush Sr’s text refers to the number 1 in the corresponding text. The same goes with
each of the subsequent texts.
4.1.1. Attitude in Bush Senior’s Inaugural Address
George Herbert Walker Bush [a.k.a Bush Senior] is the 41
st
President of the United of America. Because he was only elected once as the president of USA, there
is only one inaugural address of him viz. the one that he delivered on January 20, 1989. The full transcript of the speech and the other five inaugural addresses of the
other presidents can be seen in the appendix section of this thesis. The results of the analysis of attitude elements in the Inaugural Address are presented in the three tables
below, each table for each sub-system.
