CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the aim of the research, the place and time of the research, subject of the research, researcher’s role in the research, research
method and design, research instrument, data collecting procedures, technique of data analysis, trustworthiness, and technique of drawing conclusion.
A. The Aim of the Research
The aim of this study is to improve the students’ reading comprehension in discussion text for the third grade students of SMA Fatahillah Jakarta.
B. Place and Time of the Research
1. Place of the Research This research was conducted in SMA Fatahillah Jakatra, which is located at
Jalan Raya Buncit No. 67, Kalibata Pancoran, Jakarta Selatan. 2. Time of the Research
This research was carried out for 3 months started from September, 2014 until
November, 2014. The schedule is as follows: Table 3.1

C. Subject of the Research
The subject of the research is XII IPA students of SMA Fatahillah academic year 20142015. The number of XII IPA consists of 15 students.
D. Researcher’s Role in the Research
In this research, the researcher acts in classroom action research is not only as the researcher, but also as a teacher, a planner, and does in making pre-test,
a lesson plan, post-test in each final cycles, collecting data, analyzing, and reports the result of the study. Besides, the researcher carries out the action based upon
the lesson plan has been made.
E. Research Method and Design
1. Research Method The research method of this study is classroom action research. This method is
chosen since this study dealt with the classroom setting and the study is directed to implement the teaching technique in that specific class in order to find out
solutions to the classroom problems in teaching reading.
