2. 1. GENERAL
Teaching and Learning Activities
One semester is the time of the activity con
-
sisting of 16-18 weeks of lectures or other
scheduled act ivit ies, including various ad-
ditional activities such 2-3 week assessment
act ivit ies. These t eaching and learning ac- t ivit ies are in f orm of lect ure, lab, st udio,
exams, quizzes, assignments, presentations, seminars, research, practical work, industrial
visit s, and a t hesis.

Universit as Indonesia is held in a variet y of ways such as lect ures, assignment s ex: cal-
culation tasks, planning, design, practical
work, seminars, lab, st udio, and research f or t hesis writ ing. All educat ional act ivit ies t hat
must be undert aken by each st udent t o earn a bachelor’ s degree are cont ained wit hin t he
academic loads and measured in unit s of se- mest er credit SKS.
One SKS of an academic activity in the form of
lect ures or seminars is equivalent t o st udent ’ s ef f ort in a minimum of t hree hours a week
for one semester, consisting of 50 minutes scheduled academic interaction, 1-2 hours of
structured activities such as responsiveness or problem solving, and 1-2 hours of inde
-
pendent activities such as reading reference
books. Act ivit ies f or one semest er consist of

t erm examinat ion and anot her t wo weeks f or
inal examination. All educational activities must be performed
by each st udent t o earn a bachelor’ s degree is
an academic load of 144-145 credits divided into 8 eight semesters. Undergraduate stu
- dent s wit h an average st udy load of about
18-20 credits per semester are expected to undergo a week of minimal 18 -20 hours of
scheduled interaction with a lecturer, 18-20 hours of structured activities, and 18-20 hours
of independent learning activities.
Subj ects
Subjects in the FTUI’s undergraduate curriculum are grouped into University General Subjects
12,5, Basic Engineering Subjects 15-20, Basic Skills Subjects 30-35, Core Subjects
35-40. Subjects can be categorized as compulsory subjects and electives. They can be
taken across departments or across faculties
. Grade Point Average
Grade Point Average or GPA is used to evaluate students’ performance either for a particular
semest er in t erm of Indeks Prest asi Semest er IPS or Semest er Per f or mance Index, or,
cumulatively for all of the semester up to the
most recent one in t erm of Indeks Prest asi
Kumulatif IPK or GPA. The formula used to
calculat e eit her IPS or IPK is as f ollows:
