“shoping” instead of “shopping”. The omitting of consonant letter
“p” in the original sentences makes the sentence error. “Shoping” is not an English word and has no meaning.
The error occurs because the student get interference in using double consonant letter to certain verbs if they get addition of ed or ing.
The final single consonant letter that stands after a short stressed vowel is doubled before adding ed or ing.

Addition error is the presence of an item which must not appear in a well- formed utterance. There are 18 addition error of gerund as subject made by
the students. a.

Related to the samples above, addition error occurs because the students added article “a” that must not appear in those sentences. The
students also used “swear” and “skip” as the subject of the sentences. They are verb and can not function as subject. Subject of a sentence must
be a nounpronoun. To make the two verbs of the samples sentences above become noun, they must be added suffix
–ing. Verb + ing is the form of gerund. Gerund is a verbal noun that can function as a noun and
also as the subject of a sentence. In addition, the use of article “a” infront
of gerund as subject is not correct. b.

Related to the samples above, the addition of “ed” for “skip” and “shop” is not correct. “Skip” and “shop” must not be added by “ed”
because their position is infront of sentence and functions as a subject. By adding “ed” to the verbs, it means that the sentences are in past form.
A verb cannot be used as a subject of a setence. A subject must be a noun pronoun. The correct form is by adding “ing” to the verb because
verb+ing is a verbal noun gerund. It functions as a noun and can be used as a subject of a sentence.
These errors might occur because the students do not understand the use of gerund well.
