c. Respondents’ Comments and Suggestions on the Designed Set of Materials

Besides gathering the respondents’ opinions, the writer also obtained respondents’ comments and suggestions from open form questions in the distributed questionnaires. Each respondent mentioned the strength, weaknesses of the materials, and finally they gave some suggestions to the writer to make the materials better. Basically, all respondents agreed that the designed materials were good, well designed, well developed, and interesting. Two respondents stated that it was an interesting set of materials since it would help the students be familiar with the natural conversation. Another respondent stated that the use of authentic materials is an excellent idea since it is very likely able to raise students’ motivation. The other two respondents said that the designed set of materials was good since it gave the opportunity to the students to develop their language competencies. The respondents also added that the materials were relevant to the students since it gave them daily situation of using English with clear recordings and well-chosen topics. However, there were also some points that should be considered by the writer. One respondent stated that the activities were topic-based. They were not necessarily helpful for students meaning that it might not encourage the students to improve their spoken English ability. While another respondent stated that one of the songs provided was not appropriate, particularly because of the inappropriate words. Therefore, the respondents gave some suggestions toward the designed set of materials. The suggestions are presented as follows: 1 The activity One respondent said that it would be much better if the writer developed more ‘task-based’ activities so that the students are encouraged to improve their 52 spoken English. 2 The materials The exercises were considered difficult for the vocational high school students, and there were unclear instructions about the role-play activities. Thus, some of the respondents suggested that the writer simplify the materials and give clear instruction and explanation before doing the tasks. 3 The songs Some respondents suggested that the writer change one of the songs due to the inappropriate words. 4 The scripts Some respondents suggested that the writer provide the scripts of the dialogues for the teachers. In this case, the writer provides teacher’s manual.

6. Change to Improve
