Tiwi‘s experience above shows that she has experienced and often been involved in communicative English learning and teaching activity during certain teacher‘s
class. Meanwhile, the other teacher prefers grammar-based method in class. It means that the communicative approach has been at least introduced at
Tiwi‘s school.
Later, Tiwi said that she prefers the grammar-based method since speaking is more difficult to remember. It can be clearly found from the following
conversation.
R: then, which English learning method do you like, grammar textbook or English conversation?
S1: I prefer grammar. Speaking is more difficult to remember but writing is
easier. IS114614LLF-LLP
The conversation shows that although Tiwi previously admitted that she wants to
be able to speak communicatively, she still represents the classic students who consider grammar based learning to be a more comfortable activity compared to
communicative learning. Based on the interview results with
Tiwi, the researcher finds that Tiwi‘s English language learning process is still dominated by a less communicative
approach. The findings can be indicated from how rare she can perform communicative activity like discussion and English speaking experiences during
her learning process. Meanwhile, it does not mean that the activity totally
55 dismisses any interactive approach, as Tiwi said that one of the teachers still
involves games and quizzes in the class, although still most of the learning hours are spent on classic grammar-based or textbook teaching and learning method.
Therefore, the researcher concludes that the language learning process o n Tiwi‘s
experiences has not yet represented communicative and interactional activity as modern approach of English language learning.
