skills especially writing. The higher the students, the more experience of reading and writing they will get. In this step, I conduct an interview with the English teacher to get some information about the students’ problems in reading comprehension which gives bad impact on the students’ writing proficiency, the students characters, the students ability, the previous teaching strategy that was used by the teacher, and the classroom activities for reading and writing class.

2. Participants in Preliminary Testing

In Preliminary Testing, the research participants were two English teachers of grade X students of SMA 11 Yogyakarta and one English lecturer of Sanata Dharma Yogyakarta. Those participants would evaluate the design teaching strategies by giving opinions, comments, and suggestions.

C. Data Gathering Technique

There were two kinds of data gathered in this study. They were the data of target needs and of the designed teaching strategies evaluation. The data of target needs was gathered by conducting an interview with the English teacher of SMA Negeri 11 Yogyakarta grade X. This interview was used to obtain the data about the learners’ and teacher’s lack and need, the teaching strategies used by the teacher for teaching reading and writing and the classroom activities.
